What's in your toolkit?

• What do you all own, what would you say is essential?

I've just ordered a Park Tools Torque Wrench and a set of Vernier Calipers, these were both way into the luxury end of a toolkit, but what are you going to do with Amazon vouchers and having discovered that Park Tools are on Amazon.co.uk?

Beyond those splurges, I have some tools but not everything I probably need:

[]15" Wrench[]Pedal Wrench[]Set of Allen Keys (simple kind on a little key ring loop)[]Tyre Levers[]Crank Puller[]Pin Tool[]Wire Cutters[]Track Pump[*]Chain Cleaner
And then for consumables:

[]Muc Off[]Grease[]Lube (Purple Extreme 400)[]Innertubes (long valve, smooth valve wall - no dust cap)
What would other people recommend? What do you carry?

• I've got some stuff I brought from Oz with touring in mind - pedal spanner to build bike off plane, Alien II multi-tool, pump, etc.
I've bought one of those Lifeline?? tool sets from Wiggle. A cheaper but not too shabby copy of Park stuff with useful tools.
Also odd things like a 17mm Park cone wrench for the larger than normal locknuts on my System-Ex hubs, grease, Park chainring tool, DuraAce lockring/chainwhip tool from HubJub...

Carry: One of those Surly Jethro Tules, couple of tyre levers tied to a box of patches and glue, 1 or 2 tubes depending on distance, Alien II multi tool sometimes and an ancient Blackburn mini-pump.

• A can of Stella

• Ah, that would be a bit extreme.

I wouldn't mind having a little workshop with lots of Park Tools, but it's not going to happen for years (no space, not much need).

Have Rapha started doing tools yet? I can imagine those being a bit bling if it happened... leather handle covers perhaps? In black with pink trims.

• I wish snap-on did bike tools..

I mean, park stuff? it's shite quality compared to most mechanic's hand tools for other applications.

in my bag there is always:

spanners 15, 10, 12, 13mm
a multi tool thing
chain breaker
folding allen key set
spare tube
puncture repair
3 tyre levers
spare contact lenses
latex gloves
KFC wipe
lock ring
assorted bits I can't remember
spare chain links
now some chain lube I bought from a shop in Wimbledon that don't sell track sprockets

• Grease always confuses me. I have a really old pot of

• is that pretty much the same as white lithium grease like this?

• Whats in your saddlebag? too bloody much

Arm/leg warmers, waterproof helmet cover, skull cap, neck buff, Goretex jacket strapped to bag top, Gillet, reflective waistcoat, gloves.
Tools; allen keys 3/4/5/6/8mm, spanners 6/8/10mm, lock ring tool, chain tool, tyre levers x 3, spoke key, stubby screwdriver, Swiss Army knife.
spares; inner tubes x 5, one spare tyre, chain links, selection of bolts, puncture repair kit, cable ties, spoke nipples x3, spokes x 3 taped to rack, roll of insulating tape, disposable gloves
other junk; first aid kit with creams tablets plasters bandages , insect bite pen, lip balm, wet wipes, flannel and pack towel on longer rides, spare batteries, spare bulbs, head torch, jelly babies Tongue

And there is still room for a long sleeve top, jacket and spare shorts.

I have a smaller bag a Carradice Tour SQR that I have been using to try and carry less but I still stuff too much in it.

• I've started just carrying an old tea-towel that is acting as a tool-wrap.

The contents when I ride are simply:

• pedal spanner/wheel nut wrench
• allen keys
• innertubes (two)
• co2 thingies
• tyre levers
• a very small leatherman (screw driver, knife)

It's pretty small as kits go, but enough to do anything I would need to do on short (10 miles) to medium (60 miles) rides.

• I've had pretty much the same tools for the last couple of years. Mainly used for working on other peoples bikes rather than mine.
[ulist]
[li]leatherman mini tool (mainly for the pliers)[/li]
[li]spoke wrench[/li]
[li]spare tube[/li]
[li]patch kit[/li]
[li]tyre levers[/li]
[li]multi spanner[/li]
[li]small pump with guage[/li]
[li]4,5 and 6mm allen keys[/li]
[li]chain tool[/li]
[li]latex gloves x2, like surgical gloves[/li]
[/ulist]

That's pretty much it really. If I'm going to be doing some maintenance for someone then I might take a set of spanners and a screwdriver.

• did that dude have a full group set in his tool kit on his bike. now that is excessive ! what are the chance of breaking a chainring and rear draillier in one ride !

• i got cone wrenchs, ajustable spanners, pedal wrenches, alen keys, lock rign tools, chain whip, spoke wrench, skerwdrivers, a few BB and crank set tools, a pin spanner, crank puler, wire cutters, of course lub greas and patches/ tubes that i leave at home.

when im out i take a 15mil, an adjustable, a chin breaker, tire levers, pump, patches, and extra tube.

i would love a welding tool, but have no cash nor room to work with one.

• when im riding to uni i bring my welder just in case i snap my frame in half.....you can never be to carefull

• might as well bring a spare bike with you saves carrying all those tools

• that would be so funny riding around with a spare bike on your back

• very pesimistic

• I would definately add a headset press and cup remover, plus the eqivalent for crown races. I spent too many years bodging headsets.

A chin breaker?
Is that for use on aggro cabbies/bus drivers/peds? :-P

• on long journeys i some times bring ron cooper with me, just incase i require a new frame. hes heavy but worth it, i think

• aidan on long journeys i some times bring ron cooper with me, just incase i require a new frame. hes heavy but worth it, i think

Nah he would nick me Jelly Babies ;) The only bike I travel light on is my Lambert and the Raleigh if it's a TT.

On an Audax I like to be prepared, last Wednesday and Thursday I route checked our 400km ride and in shite weather had four punctures and still had two spare tubes :)

My 23l Caradice

You carry this around town?!?!?! Fark.. I spent 4 months touring with less stuff :)

• latest item a bar towel, great for drying hair

• I travelled with a Speedo chamois towel. Packs down to jam jar size and dries quickly. Obviously not as nice as your £20 plush luxury jobbie..

• no expense spared, me and theBrick got one each on sunday
