29inch tires

So, i am building a surly 1x1 fixed gear bike. it has just enough space to put on some 29x2 inch mtb slicks. has anyone done something like this? if nothing else it would be interesting and i could ride anywhere with it. the ones that i am thinking of are built like armor, so nothing will hurt them. let me know what ya'll think.
