That was an awesome day. But i'm SO tired. Towards the end on the way back, my saddle started to become REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE, my arms/neck started to ache, my right kneecap suddenly came loose (SCARY). Dicki and i parted ways at Kennington, so i went to victoria/hydepark/marblearch alone, hoping to catch a bus or a train. Alas, there was no night bus for this route, so i had to ride home, at 1m/s, feeling like i was gonna collapse. Now i've just completely raided the fridge and i'm still hungry.
Next time, i will bring ROAD BARS and a different saddle. Or better yet, a fixed-wheel road bike.
Yep.

How many people went?

I've no idea... 20 or 30? Andy from fixed gear london was counting heads at checkpoints, if anyone knows it's he.

great ride all got back to my house at about 12.30 the ride home was fun tail wind all the way got a nice steady pedal cadence going and didn't think too much about the sore bits lpg and i must have done 130miles in total at one stage i had my doubts we would ever see the inside of the M25 again getting lost in some backwater ( i was eyeing the hedges for a comfy place to get my head down and resume the following morning ) down in redhill area but lpg found a route and on we went hardest day of my life i think never done anywhere near that kind of physical effort ever

dicki/lpg - I can't believe you rode back - I was pretty much ready to collapse when we arrived! I think I can safely say that 80 miles in a day is my limit.
Felt better after the beer tho. Great day out, nice to meet everyone, and nice to accomplish something of that stature. Next time I WILL make the Beacon!! -

dicki...does that mean you're doing the dunwich dynamo in july?
-
• #88
ooops what have i let myself in for .... but yes i think i'll give it a go
do you have any links for details of said ride ??
-
• #90
i'm thinking of doing the dynamo but the furthest i have ridden is 40miles (was off road though so means more on the road) need to start doing some longer distances i think :-)

it makes it sound a lot less painful than i think it'll be. but i'm pretty excited. i'll be doing the london to brighton in june. so have one month to go twice the distance. in the dark. without sleep. ungh....

it was good time, hard time for me as well, i do about 60 miles a day on a fixed as a courier but its totally different than riding long distances...
thanks for FixedGearLondon that organized that...
unfortunately the weather wasn`t so good but was good fun -

fair play for you lot for doing it, if my hub wasn't fucked, would have joined you. how long did it take?
-
• #98
lol...about 7 hours and a half...we stopped a few times, we got lost twice and the wind wasn't helping .i'll admit i should've paced myself a bit better coz towards the end my nuts and right kneecap were hurting like hell, but if ask me to do it again next week i'd say yes!

Anyone out there have a map of the route you took? I'm going to give it a go this weekend weather permitting.
-

You probably don't want a map of the exact route we took!!!
The one we were generally aiming for was something like this though:
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/BHF-London-to-Brighton-2004
what - Roberto had gears? I thought it was FIXEDgearlondon's ride to brighton, not 27gearlondon's...
sounds like fun - was Ted there, killing it? how many girls?
