  • My shoes have finally broken.

10 yr old nike acg's are dead.

I swore Id never get some black sidis and just be another follower of the latest fashion

    But they are bloody nice.

Any ideas on where i can try some on in london.

Brixton cycles dont have any in at the mo and Condor (naturally) only do the £175 Dragons.

  • There's a pair on the wall of Cycle Fit on Macklin Street off Drury Lane.
I saw them earlier today, so I doubt they're gone. And they are foot fetishists in there so will definitely help you get the perfect fit.

  • Ah ok

Im working at holborn at the mo so i'll take a look.

  • They close at 6pm.

And it's a high-end roadie store... so expect bike porn everywhere and not much else. They are great in there though.

  • Just rang.

They dont have wee man sizes in at the mo.

    Very helpful though.

Im going to go up next week for a look around. Wont be taking a credit card though as that could be very dangerous.

Okay.. someone 'splain me this black sidi thing? WTF?

  • They look pretty normal, they fit incredibly well, they're MTB shoes so the cleats are recessed and you can walk in them.

    Just good cycle shoes.

  • evidently it's scuffed silver sidi dragons for couriers, shiny new ones for non-couriers

    i have silver/black nike's, fake-fakenger style :-)

  • You can also get spare parts for them pretty easily from places like chain reaction.

  • Dragons are more expensive, but have the benefit of having replaceable walking pads on the bottom. If you're going to be doing a lot of walking (in and out of buildings, stairs, whatever) and want real value for money then it is worth spending more.

Then you can just replace the bottoms of the shoe rather than the whole shoe. And whoever heard of the tops breaking?

So yeah, the couriers shoes would be scuffed, my Dominator 5's are going that way but when my Dominators lose the bottom I need new shoes, the couriers with Dragons simply replace the bottom and are off again.

You only need to have replaced the bottoms once to have saved money on the cost of a new pair.

Sidi's will last you years (providing you take care of them in winter and consider over-shoes in the really bad weather).

  • The "benefits" of the dragon's replaceable sole are pretty tenuous given that they wear out faster than some blu tack on the bottom of your foot.

Try the two big evans in waterloo for a massive range of shoes. Prepare to wait for a long time and to be served by someone who knows nothing.

  • Those black Sidis look nice, how much do they go for?

EDIT: I just Googled them - black/black Sidi Dominator MTB shoes, £100 from http://www.velouk.co.uk

  • These are my road shoes but I'm looking to replace my ancient and a-bit-too-tight Nike ACG's.

I've been talking about replacing these shoes for 3 years now though. If it ain't broke..

  • Momentum that's not true:

I work in the waterloo road store. but only part time cause i'm a smelly student. There are plenty of cyclist working in my shop.
    Just ask for me ;)

  • A brand new evans opened today, 2 mins away from my place. Looks pretty big, i might have to check it out tomorrow ...

Sidi's for the winter, Vans for the summer/ my feet stink all year round..

  • evans stores are a bit of a lottery, a mate of mine is manager of one and most of his staff do not ride bikes or are 'into' cycling, the outlying stores don't have this problem, he seems to think its a central london thing.
it's pissed him off that much he's moving to another branch.

  • Tried some on this weekend.

Bugger me they are narrow. Had to try the expensive jobs in Condor, the guy explained that it is the italian fit. When I asked if it was in vogue to not be able to feel your feet? he gave me a look as if to say you dont deserve to wear these.

So specialized BG comps and a new helmet it is.

  • Mine are not just narrow but also squashed inside. I had custom insoles made, and they basically fill in any space below the feet so that every drop of downwards pressure is converted into power into the cranks. Can be a little tight fitting in hot weather after 30 minutes in the saddle (there's no space anyway, let alone any for the feet to expand into).

I love them though, I'd buy another pair of Sidi's without hesitation. And yeah, I'd get the insoles again too.

  • you can get wide fitting sidis. the technos used to do a wide fit and am pretty sure dominators come wide also..

the sizes are odd though, had to buy some new sidis last year and i went up 2 sizes from the technos ??

  • Shimano were supposed to be good for wider feet. I have wide (and long, actually) feet so err.. yeah.
The SIDI trend didn't make it to Oz I guess so I'll stick with shoes that fit (or in the case of the Nike's - shoes that are frickin cheap!)

  • Hi to you all.I don't know what all this CRAP is about.Paying stupid money for modern shoes in the name of all of the GUFF that is dished out in your direction to get you to part with your hard earned or otherwise obtained pennies. You don't know what comfort & quality is untill you have worn and still have after 30+yrs Vittoria & Vega Italian Perforated Leather Cycling Shoes.Oh and complete with nail on plates they only weigh 45gms more than my partners modern shoes with cleats fitted.

  • in b4 popcorn thread.

  • They close at 6pm.

Fuck, I used to use that bike shop years ago, when it was called something else...

    Eh, no, it's gone.
