ok i tell you this...4mm doesnt seem much but it definately is...i thought the same way as you did up to the moment i was told that my beloved italian frame might have needed to go to a frame builder to get that 27.2 seatpost i hammered in out of it...tears came to my eyes and so i asked for some advice and.. well happy ending and lesson learned:
ALWAYS USE THE RIGHT SEATPOST FOR YOUR FRAME, IF IT DOESNT SLIDE THRUGH THEN YOU NEED ANOTHER ONE!

so if you're really desperate you may be able to get one custom built by a frame builder possibly.
