  • datenschwanz i paid $700us for the frame and fork on this one:

the track fork rear end is from paul's components in chico, ca. the frame is lugged 631 steel.

    what be them there hubs?
    they look interesting...

  • As do the spokes.

    Ah, here they are:
    http://www.canecreek.com/volos_track.html

Only the rear has that strange hub:

    And they're tubs.

  • I'd tend to agree with imoncrank and go custom for that money..

i had until 2 weeks ago (got nicked) a condor potenza which was about £800 and have to say it was a brilliant winter training bike. the geo on the potenza is designed for track whereas the pista is definitely more for road. in reality the potenza has a harsher head tube angle which makes it a tad more responsive, but the toe overlap was fine..

however, now i get to do it all again, i'm building custom this time. the condors are really good bikes, but after a while you'll want to personalise it and end up changing most of the components anyhow.. unless you're using the bike strictly as a training bike then i'd go custom.. also its fun to learn about the different components and you get hooked on ebay !

    good luck anyhow..

  • tub?

    what does that mean?

  • datenschwanz tub?

    what does that mean?

integrated tyre and inner tube. tubs can get much higher pressure than clinchers, but if punctured...well...you'll have to change into walking shoes.

More info here: Sheldon's words of wisdom

  • the wheels are cane creek volos, and they are available as a clincher or tubular. i run clinchers. easier to fix a flat, for me at least. i really like them. they spin up and down quite fast.

  • I noticed on their site that the road hub version of the Volos is listed in both clincher and tubular, but it only listed the track hub version as tub.

They're damn sweet wheels, so I'm glad you can get the track hub with clincher.

And Sapim CX spokes too... purrrr.

  • i have sets of them on my road and mountain bikes as well. can't say enough good things about them.

  • Damn, they're only £329.99 for the silver set... that's not bad at all (I spend money way too easily).

  • only £329.99!

I really want a decent bike now..

priced up a Robert Thelonious Jackson of Leeds, London England frame, added all the parts I thought I might like, nowt too showy.

    came out at £700.

    doh! maybe next year eh..

  • If anyone is looking for a nice fixer they have a really nice Metallic Red lugged Fondriest in Brick Lane Bikes, would have been mine if it wasn't too small - its a 54cm.

  • Allyb!
    yea, what a coincidence!
I Just went on the internet to see if i can find out some background on my new bike and i find this post....
I just bought that very bike over the weekend!

    I Love it.

  • You're damned lucky it was too small for Ally ;)

  • Yea Dam lucky,
Iv had a few messengers say its a sweet bike.
    im well happy
    Also its my first Fixie!

  • it looks the shiz

  • i saw tht fondiest in there - it's lovely. too small for me though!

  • Hey CG Marshall.

Glad it went to a good home - kinda makes me feel better about the fact that it didn't fit - it really is a beautiful frame, the metallic paint looks ace in the sun light.

    Enjoy.

    For me the search continues...

  • I have a Fondriest™, I couldn’t bear the paint job, not so much the yellow as the crazy arse stripe thing, way to busy. Now it’s black with risers. Sweet ride, I thought I had the only one. It’s a shame Marco Pantani didn’t lend his name to the manufacture of frames. “ll Pirata” would be way hardcore.

  • I love that paint job. Ah well.

What is it with the killer saddles? Time for another thread methinks.

  • in the flesh the colour is more candy apple, the phot makes it look a bit orange.

  • CGMarshall Allyb!

Just wondered how much Jan charged you?

  • Man, this thread is making me drool and want to get a new bike. Got to stop spending my money on beer...

  • Hi, ive not long got my first fixie too...

£20 from a mate who was upgrading...

Its an old 70s/80s Carlton if the stickers on the frame are right but it serves me well for commute...

Only problem is i now want something nice as well - but my budget is significantly less than yours.

  • Just noticed how old this thread is - oh well...

    &&^^* computers ;-)

  • At least you searched...
