  • Argh! It's the bikeforums/cyclingplus debate!

    RUN!

  • Run indeed. It was the comment by the scooter monkey that got me.

  • I heard Buffalo Bill on Radio 5 yesterday debating this very issue. Interesting debate. The bottom line was make sure you are safe if that means making an illegal move then do, it if it means the truck doing the left doesn't run over you then pass a red light. A Radio 5 webcast / podcast should be available if any of you want to listen. It was on during the Simon May show on ntues.

  • This 'news' story is old. See here.

  • And check out the commuter who invaded the Moving Target Forum to try and start an RLJ debate!

  • Oh hell, we're going to get that kind of crap on here aren't we?

I'll have to write a script that detects bullcrap and then shows those users a forum full of discussion on unicorns or something.

  • Nah, just ignore it. Or put something in the posting guidelines. It's a free country, after all.

  • We don't have posting guidelines ;) I want to see how long we can last without them.

  • Help! I got one over on the MT forum....

  • Perhaps point out that every vehicle driver out there breaks the law routinely, they break the speed limit.

And like cyclists who jump red lights they make their decision based on their perceived risk to others and themselves and the perceived benefits (theirs being that time is valuable, ours being the same plus added safety), and that like cyclists there are some that take the decision to flout that law without calculating relative risk to others but this does not reflect on the majority who are breaking the law without creating an increase risk for others.

  • Actually, escalation may be a terrible idea.

How about you just ban him for being a troll? It's your forum, and if he moans about free speech remind him that he's able to establish his own website if he disagrees, and can whine all he wants on there.

  • velocity boy Oh hell, we're going to get that kind of crap on here aren't we?

I'll have to write a script that detects bullcrap and then shows those users a forum full of discussion on unicorns or something.

Now that's the shit I'm talking about! Onward to victory fuckers!

  • I already told him to naff off back to SafeSpeed or be deleted...

  • Right, all I was doing is putting something out there. They where not my comments, I never knew BB had already covered it. I got fucked over by a car a month ago, destroyed my bike and left a dent in my helmet that would have put me 6ft under, so I am firmly on the cycle side. I never intended to offend anyone though it seems I have and for this I apologise...

  • I don't think anyone is offended.

It's just one of those topics (like whether you should wear a helmet) that always blows up.

Best to sit back and laugh about it. I don't think a single person here is offended by the post though, and I bet we all jump lights at times. As you can see from Moving Type, the debate instantly attracts the people who go hysterical at the thought of RLJ. So for forum sanity, we just avoid the issue.

  • No worries. I'll keep that in mind.

  • With you on that one velocity boy. Lets try to avoid circular debates.

  • I'm with you on that one TheBrick. Circular debates are best avoided.

  • what he said, no to circulars eh lads?

  • I'm with you on that one ... hold on a minute this seems to be geting circual, or trianglar at the very least!

  • perhaps we should start talking about 4x4's or climate change :-)

  • what?

  • nobody ever changes their mind after all the arguing.
