  • I went along for the induction first, good fun but basic teaching the etiquette / overtaking rules etc then went along for a training session the following week it is great fun to ride with out the need to be aware of the Volvo / Merc just about to pull out in front you. Good to ride in a group and good to meet some other fine people. I found it was best to find people of a similar standard for the training otherwiase you just get burnt out trying to keep up with better cyclists. Well worth the effort though

  • how much does it cost to hire a bike for the monday sesh?

    or is it all free!

  • anyone coming along tonight? went well last week and the sun is supposed to come out later.....and yes I believe bike hire is free too....get there early for the better ones.

  • I fitted my drops, so I'm coming. But not this week, as I forgot both my helmet and lycra.

Definitely next Monday (which is the last one, isn't it?)... definitely.

  • yes, I believe so....there are helmets available too.....not the most stylish....lycra is not required, only recommended...any reasonably tight fitting sports clothes will do!

  • i'll be there

  • that was a good laugh.

    I am so unfit!

  • Went along last night met up with LaPlus. Did quite a few laps and a few races, Scratch Race, Devil Take the Hindmost and a Points race. As I have always thought, distinctly average will appear on my gravestone somewhere. Just about got past a slightly rotund 55 year old down the home straight on the Scratch Race.
I love riding on the track though, some bloke said last night said it was a zen-like experience just watching the wheel in front tracking a line I can see what he meant full concentration on the cycling great fun

i think the last monday night one is next week but saturday mornings continue throughout the season

  • I was there last night (tall guy on a black bike) - it was damn good fun but showed that pissing around on the street doesn't make you fit!

  • "tall guy on a black bike"

that could have been any one of about ten blokes!

unless you were the other guy who got inducted with me and my mate, there were only three of us in that group

  • That was me - ginger hair, grey cycling shirt, awesome lycra (never previously worn without jeans to cover it). It was a good laugh and I'm gonna try and go again next Monday.

  • yeah, me too.

might also try saturday if hangover not present

  • Saturday is off the cards for me as it's my girlfriend's birthday, but I hope to do a few Saturday sessions over the summer. All very hangover dependent though - that's what stopped me all last year!

That's what laid waste to my enthusiasm to become a road racer. I missed so many training sessions simply because of preceding late nights out.

I know in advance I'm not going back to racing, including the track. I just want to try it :)

  • Oh, and I was quite shit! Hills are the death of me.

  • there's nothing wrong with a few beers, and a bit of riding

some of us will never be racing chamions, might as well enjoy ourselves!

  • Argh! My work are sending me to Slough tomorrow! Slough!!!

I've bought drops, was really in the mood, and what happens? I have to wear a suit, leave the bike at home and go to Slough.

This is like hell. Except I know what hell is, hell is the last visit to the dentist where they played Wet Wet Wet whilst drilling, that's hell.

  • fell off the mtb yesterday, knee is still a bit sore, i may turn up to watch the action.

  • I started dinking at lunchtime yesterday and finished at midnight. I don't think I will be able to do anything involving physical exertion at any point today.

  • I'm out too :(

work interferes, and I'm riding on a broken rear hub

  • Well I was there - first race in 18 months - hurt like hell. Forgotten how much racing hurts. And how much fun it is.

  • I had to work late but my mate Paul went, he was probably on his dark green TJ Quick with yellow forks

  • I've just done the induction session at Herne Hill - to anyone who hasn't tried it...DO IT! 3 quid for the initial session - including bike hire - can't say fairer than that! I couldnt stay for the next sessions, but i'll def be going back as soon as poss - highly recomended.......

me too - I did it today. It was great and utterly knackering. I was going to use my own bike but they won't let you on unless you remove your front brake and the computer wire was all twisted around the brake cable - good reason to get a wireless.. their bikes are ok but a bit heavy.
