Thursday 5th April - Highgate Hill Climb Race - Time and place in the thread.
Friday 6th April - Good Friday Track Meet @ Herne Hill - Meeting point and time to be determined.

I've gone over the calendar re-doing some of the event names.

This is just to make it easier to see in the Calendar on this web page.

Basically you couldn't tell the difference between:

• South London Drinks
  
• South London Polo
  
  

As both just looked like "South Londo" and were being cut off.

So I've changed the titles of events to:

• Drinks: South
  
• Polo: South
  
• Polo: East/Central
  
• Drinks: West
  
  

Dull... but highly readable on the Calendar on here and on mobile phone screens. Which is basically what I was heading for.

Currently all these people have access to the calendar to be able to make changes, add events, etc:

click on a date/event: can this show who is going to go/aiming to go?

so you can click into a guestlist (or out again if you cant go etc)

I haven't been to any LFGSS events yet and wouldnt know if
anyone was actually meeting at the John Snow tonight(fri 11th april) for example

it would also help with not needing to re-paste lists in the threads for the
group rides(like HH velodrome)

Google Calendar can't do that as you can't invite yourself along as a guest to an event in the calendar. And if you could you'd all need gmail addresses which is a bit harsh.

vBulletin has a calendar built-in but i've chosen to bypass it as there is no iCal type support or way that people could sync it to other devices.

Basically the choice is:
Rich multi-platform support and availability via RSS, Xml, iCal... or Rich event information like being able to add yourself to events.

So far I've opted for the former.

The absolute ideal would be something that publishes the vBulletin calendar to Google... as then we'd have both and manage them just from here... but that doesn't exist yet.

i'm not very technical with blogs/websites or forums and most of that went over my head
but i'm sure you knew what i meant.

so whatever happens happened(or didnt) cos you obviously know best.

OK so here is a quick question can we re arrange the calendar,

I find it difficult to look quickly at the calendar to find an event

I feel that it is not necessary to include all the weekly drinks and polo, this could be in a thread called weekly events, we know when they are and are not going to forget

just putting the idea out there, i think it will make things easier as more events are included through the summer

I'd be happy with that.. the calendar is cluttered with regular shit.

no! keep the weekly things on! i look at it to see when drinks are (cuz, like, my memory is a complete sieve). maybe do rides and other things in a different colour if you feel it's too crowded.

Leave everything for now.

A better plan is to have two calendars:
"LFGSS Social" for regular stuff
"LFGSS Events" for one-offs/other stuff

And then for me to work out how to provide a merged view with the ability to toggle what you see.

But don't go deleting anything, as I will need to copy stuff from one calendar to the other and re-allocate permissions and implement a front-end first.

OK.

We now have two calendars:
Social
Events

The social stuff is for all the recurring things like drinking, polo, and open tool workshops.
The events stuff is for all big things, the rides, etc.

I've separated the calendars already and re-delegated all permissions out to those who had access before.

You can now subscribe to one, the other or both according to your interest levels.

Hope that helps.

Oh... and calendar mods... make sure you put events in the right calendar! Social stuff in the events calendar will piss off the people wanting just low-noise info, and events in the social calendar will mean that people will miss out.

And I found a bug/feature in the Google Calendar API that lets me show two calendars on top of each other. Fun.

bridges ride is in the wrong calendar
and it no longer has the week starting on a monday
