Critical Mass - March '07

  • For those who don't know or haven't been on to the London Critical Mass before:

The London Mass meets at 6.30pm on the last Friday of every month on the South Bank under Waterloo Bridge, by the National Film Theatre.
Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's damn annoying, but I never regret riding down and taking part.

I may well be late for the March one, doing some TdF promo thing on my geared bike just before in Hyde Park.

Seems to be the perfect opportunity to see a few faces prior to Easter weekend though, anyone else going to be present? And if so, can you whisper me your mobile number so I can find you all if I turn up too late ;)

  • I think i'm going to be going along to this - havn't been for a while. I'll give you a shout when i have a clearer idea

  • Anyone doing it then?

I'm going to be in Hyde Park until just after 18:30... you never know I might be able to be clear and get to you guys before you've moved. But if not, it would be nice to be able to phone someone to find out where you are.

  • so, after a really nice ride tonight (1st proper ride fixed, and brakeless no less!), I get home (in one piece) and our interwebnet connection is sorted, woohoo!
1st post from home, haha. Nice to meet you velocity boy, here's to this forum kicking off.
Looking forward to a midnight ride tomorrow, I'm f'ckin' buzzin! :-P

  • crit mass was good, but the ride home was better - gotta love riding in the wet!

  • I posted some pictures here.

  • Thanks for the photos.

The mass was one of the first I've been to in a few months, I usually get put off them in the summers and abandon them until I feel something drive me back to them. The recent deaths along with an edgy feeling on some of the West London roads, and also learning that a member of my cycling club is still suffering in a really bad way since a crash last October... not much was going to keep me away.

I'd forgotten about the Aldwych Underpass though, the bit I remember most was having to hold up a Bentley down near Monmouth St... the silly fucker pulled right into the middle of the mass and then had the cheek to go crazy at myself and another guy when we held him up and advised him that it was safer for all involved if he just sat there and that the police would agree. The police did agree, but the guy was still fuming at us.

  • Cant remember the last time the cops let it go under the strand underpass!

  • There were a lot more police than usual too. I had to check whether one of the police women was OK after she nearly came off when she came down a curb. I did have to chuckle at that. They're there for "our safety" after all!

  • I havent been in over a year, but I do remember their riding ability did leave a little to be desired ;)
