  • Is there such a thing?

    The perfect bar would:

    • have a beer garden with enough space to allow the bikes to be locked in it and staff friendly enough to let you.
    • be somewhere within 10 minutes (by bike) of the West End.
    • not be too severe on the wallet.
    • sell half decent food.

Anything else? And more importantly, is there such a place?

  • The Crown or Albion in Barnsbury.

  • The fucking duke.

  • You're here!Come back to London now.

Bike friendly bars can also include ones where you can drink on the street and keep an eye on your bike. You can then start drunken trackstand antics until you get asked to leave.

  • I was going to suggest something on the river, but trackstanding there might mean a soaking. Perhaps not a great idea, I doubt any of us wants to lift our bike out of the clay banks of the Thames.

That said, the South Bank might be a great place to look for a bar with enough lock up space to accomodate us in the summer evenings.

  • the NFT bar is ok.

added bonus of seeing the critical mass start off once a month- and then deciding if its worth joining.

  • I like to park my bike up against the picnic benches outside the Oxford in Kentish Town, grab a pint and watch the Saturday afternoon shoppres go by. Good place for cyclists on warm summer evenings. Usually there mid-afternoon, trying to settle my liver after the night before.

  • i'm sure we'll be asked to leave the john snow sooner or later, all those nice houses don't like having bikes chained to their railings!

  • Aren't these two points mutually exclusive? Guess it depends how far you can ride in 10min :-)

    • be somewhere within 10 minutes (by bike) of the West End.
    • not be too severe on the wallet.
  • McGlynn's near Kings Cross wasn't bad, and there was a good fence for chaining bikes.

    No beer garden though.

  • I can't believe I paid £4.50 for a pint of Bulmers at Couch on Dean St.
10m away was Tesco where I could've had three cold bottles for the same amount! Fscking west end shite!
Okay, so I don't go out with bike much - I've got no idea about cheap, bike-friendly pubs. Chandos on Tott Crt Rd is cheap but not bike friendly.

  • Sam Smiths... that's where cheap and West End come together.

There's one called The Angel behind Centre Point just down from the Intrepid Fox.

The Intrepid Fox is worth considering too, always a few messenger bikes chained up there, must have some advantage to it.

The church between the two offers the perfect place to chain your bike up too.

  • the intrepid fox?!

    hah, that brings back memories.

I expect they'd call it a Goth pub these days, or has it changed?

  • It's moved. It's no longer down in Soho, now it's underneath and at the back of Centre Point... up the back of Hanway St.

I think it's still a Rock pub with some Goths in attendance. Don't all the Goths just hang out at Garlic and Shots in Soho?

  • dunno,
I remember the fox from the late 80's it was never really any good.

    shit I'm old

  • Yeah, but that's because the rock in the late 80's was dire ;)

  • The Snow's the place for a mid-week one, but too busy on Thurs or Friday in the winter.

    In the summer, it's perfect!

The Duke is getting to be way too much hassle, the cops get called to clear out the lane all the time now. At least that's what I hear. I ain't been there for a while ...

My favourite drinking and riding pub is on whitechapel road opposite the mosque. There's no beer garden, but there are really tough railings outside, the food is pretty good, not too expensive either and the drinkers are pretty cool. I used to like the Pub on the Park (London Fields), but it seems to have gone a bit too shiny.

  • The NFT in the summer fits the bill nicely too.

  • Coach & Horses, SW4

The angel at rotherhithe... Sam smiths... Loads a space and dead quiet all the time..... Ticks all the boxes and you get a sweet view west and east of the thames too.

sounds like a good tip, I shall investigate

  • Greyhound W12 A beer and food for a £5 and a beer garden and you can even leave your bikes inside ;p

  • The Angel is really cool little pub, love it down there, its one of my locals :)

    Agrees.

  • Captain Kidd's on Wapping High St, 2mins from Tower Bridge, Sam Smiths cheapness, large garden with river view - perfect for bikes. Dunno about food though.

Selkirk in Tooting, massive closed off beer garden - will let you take your bike through the pub and leave it there. Bar Billiards and good Roasts on Sundays.
