But where is the meeting point?

This seems to be the route. Start and finish at the one.

Seems to say it will be on friday not thursday but may be it changes to thursday later on in the thread.
Dam if it is friday as that means I can't play :(.

My mistake the start finish is gloucester gate. Or was last week and in planning stages for this thursday 5:30.
velocity boy are you a member of that forum? Seems like there may be alot of people over there that may be interersted in this place. PM them.
I am up for it if it is on thursday. My big problem is that I am a south London boy and will get lost!

I am a member, but have only posted a couple of times (I kept to my club forum more than the magazine ones). I've started a thread letting them know about this place, and a few have come over already.
Not sure about PM'ing everyone... happy to do it when I've posted somewhere quite a bit, but don't want to slip over the line between promoting and spamming.
Hmmm... we should start a viral campaign to get this place going properly... so much potential, yet so easy for it to stall and falter in the early days. Who's up for putting links to http://www.londonfgss.com/ in their signatures of other forums? Things like that work when people who post regularly do them... less so when a virtual stranger comes in and tries it.

Your right about spamming people.
I am up for the signiture thing though.

Man, Highgate West Hill is f#cking steep. Props to anyone who gets up that on a fixed-gear. It wastes me, every time.

The trick is to swap the cog and chainring, I'm sporting a new look 16x47!

Thought I'd try this circuit out, with a raging hangover and burnt out lungs. The last 20 metres of the hill are a killer. On the approach I burned up a multi-geared carbon fibre motherfucker, and he only caught me just before the summit, saying "I'm impressed" as he passed. Downhill bit's nice though. Coughed all the way back home afterwards. Nice.

Right, let's just do it.
I've updated the first post, set a meeting time of 17.45 as that gives people a slight chance of getting there. We can set off at 18:00.
So, 17.45 @ Gloucester Gate, Thursdays.
And some of you guys have an unfair advantage: http://www.londonfgss.com/discussion/22/drivetrain/#Item_8
I'll make it up the hill though, even if it hurts.

Alright! Hope to see you all there this thursday.
This is the route:

I'm definitely going to be there on Thursday.
Afterwards I'm off clubbing and drinking in Brixton to this place should anyone like the music and want to join me (in bike gear, sod changing just to drink and dance):
How Does It FeelIt's usually on Fridays, but because of the bank holiday it's a Thursday shindig instead.

Hope to make it on Thursday. Depends if I've recovered from this afternoon's first-swim-in-21-years... ow, my arms!
-
• #15
Considering it. I did it this afternoon just to remind myself if I could or not. 1st a few months ago i failed miserably, 2nd a month later I managed it. This time, it wasn't so bad but it gets real slow ;)

I've flipped back to fixed... it will be hilarious even if I walk the last bit.

yeh think i'll double check i can make it first before tryin to race up it.
don't suppose there's a decent pub half way up is there?! -

I think race is a loose term.
Collective ride to a point of exhaustion whilst in desperate need of alcoholic lubrication is closer to what I was imagining.

I'm sure if i can pretty much anyone can as long as you have legs ;)Tbh i didnt notice what was happening either side of me - all i knew that whoever was getting impatient behind me in the van could fuck off ;)
Also don't do it after eating half a head of raw garlic for lunch.

That was fun - thanks for an entertaining evening.
I think fatherhood is stopping me from being so 'reckless' at junctions and lights. Well, that and the growing sense of your own mortality once you get into your 30s!
Hoping to come along again soon. Cheers for the beer and chocolate!

Yes indeed nice evening for it and great to meet you all. The hill nearly did for me but seeing it flatten out was the best moment of the day !!
See some of you at Herne Hill tomorrow
