  • Wot … ? Oh no ….

  • Oh no. Always a great shop. That is a huge shame.

  • Damn. I was a customer of theirs before there was such a thing as LFGSS.

  • It was a pleasure serving you, always brings a smile whenever you popped in!

  • The worst news.. probably the last bike shop co op in London. End of an era.

  • Oh no, that is the worst news.

    oh shit

  • "No manners, no spanners"

Obvs the golden rule is you never ask to use tools, so I loved how Brixton encouraged you to learn to fix your own bike (doing themselves out of an easy few quid) by lending basic tools and offering guidance - provided you were polite

  • Are you Lorenzo by any chance?

  • Terrible news.

I've just tried their number to no answer but can't find anyting on instaface/their website about this being the case.
I purchased my Lemond Fillmore (still going) from Barney there many years ago; the gateway to this cough fine place...

  • Google is your friend...

  • 4.4! Didn’t realised it gone that low

  • This is incredibly sad if 100% confirmed. They were a proper institution. Last breed of actual bike shop with some humanity. Not soulless boxes that hustle to the final margin. It'll be sorely missed.

  • SHIT! Really sad to read that Brixton Cycles has gone, please, please can I be wrong!

Such a shame to lose them, lovely people.

  • Are any of the team on here?

  • I mentioned it to a couple of customers who got their bikes from them, and the both said good-riddance (and are lovely customers to us). I don't know what has happened, but certainly something has gone on. Backstage drama certainly impacts the ability to give top-notch (usually free or too much time for the money, to be honest) customer service.

A real shame, it was inspiring to think that someone could run as a co-op.

  • it was inspiring to think that someone could run as a co-op

And they did successfully for many years. It might picque our own existential fears, but we shouldn’t expect single businesses to last forever. Everything’s and everyone’s time eventually ends, and now perhaps someone else will find a co-op or adjacent model that will fund their lifestyle and inspire others for a decade.

  • Where do you work? Brixton cycles was my lbs, so will need a new one, and not looking to head to the Evans in clapham.

  • Loved Brixton Cycles, sad to see it go, been going there for over 20yrs, from when it was round the corner from the ritzy. Need to find a place to do bits for my Brompton as well.
What I loved about them was the fact that people had been working there for years and no matter what type of bike you had someone there would be riding it, and know how to fix it.
And I lived my life by “no manners, no spanners”, it was such a community spirited space that I don’t know how it’ll be replaced.

  • Need to find a place to do bits for my Brompton as well.

I've used cyclefix in Kennington for mine and they've been ok.

  • I've been out of London 3 years now so no idea of this is still the case but Compton Cycles in Catford were really good for Brompton servicing.

Really sad to hear that BC is no more.

  • The BC site doesn't seem to have been updated at all, are they still trading on-line even if the shop is shuttered?

It is a great shame, but as Muc-ed-off says, shops come to an end. I hope it wasn't acrimonious or as a result of the general raw deal shops have been getting. I'd like to hear what is possible to be made public.
