• Having been driven close to madness trying to keep my iMac 27 on the road as Mac's OS iterations disappear up the road, I'm now close to replacing it.

I'm looking at an iMac 24 or a Mac Mini with a proprietary monitor, eg LG UltraFine 32. Any thoughts?

It's imperative that I retain access to my Quadra remote drive and to my DVD reader. Both have standard USB plugs. How is this achieved?

Any recommended retail sources that accept their responsibilities when problems occur ?

  • standard USB plugs. How is this achieved?

    Dongles/adapters/multi-port docks. Cheap and ubiquitous.

Buying direct from Apple is the path of least resistance, otherwise John Lewis with their '2-year guarantee', but I can't vouch for what that's actually worth.

  • I’d probably go Mac mini, then you can get one of those base units @amey keeps banging on about which should give you enough usb/thunderbolt ports to keep your dvd reader and remote drive attached, whilst you look at upgrading them to something faster/more modern.
