What modern stands would you recommend for a similar speaker? My dad still has his 104ABs on the OG trolley style castors...

I would raise the speakers so the tweeters are level with your ears, would also mitigate some of the reflection from the desk surface.
Edit: Would moving the desk to the wide wall be an option?

Yes raising the speakers up is a good call. I’d also experiment with blocking the ports (looks like those speakers come with bungs for that purpose?).
Maybe not possible with your setup, but leaving the speakers next to the wall and moving your seat back by about 1.5m should give more balanced bass response.
Turning the desk around would improve sidewall reflections, but the closer wall behind you would bring more problems, so I’m not sure it would help things.

I haven't bought or shopped for stands in nearly 40 years, so bear that in mind, but in order of importance:
- Correct height
- Stiff
- Damped
- Heavy
I don't believe in a material difference between space frames and monolithic columns.
- Correct height

Have you tried the speakers in a bigger room / free space? Not sure what you'd learn but I'd be curious.
