My favourite knife is older than I am, handed down from my mum. It's not remotely rust proof and gets hidden at the back of the drawer, beyond the more modern, less rust prone knives when we have house/cat sitters.
The stakes are lower though, it's definitely not in the same league as a Blenheim Forge knife!

I have a Niwaki one, they do a good job.
Also, luckily I live a five minute ride from Blenheim who do lifetime sharpening and blade care.
So not really a problem. Just annoying and adds to the calculus of "why are all other human beings not obsessive about the same things as me and are therefore total disappointments....?"
