There seem to be loads of shit ones. I looked at a bunch of YT reviews and comparisons to see the flaws and that one ^ seems to fix all the things that they complain about. Even the cheaper legit Horl has a stainless steel plate on it to “strop” with. I’m no sharpening expert but that seems like at best a waste of time.
@Tenderloin AliExpress roller review:
Very well made, solid construction. Abrasives seem good quality. I’ve used whetstones & a Lanskey type thing and this is the best of both worlds I think. Consistent angle while still giving enough feedback to concentrate or certain bits of the blade. Instant “setup” means it’s not a ballache to swap sides of the blade and slowly eliminate the burr.
Add a leather strop and you’re golden.
Even managed to do the wee knives with a bit of fiddling. The deep bladed nakiri needed the strop under the roller to raise it a little, with various chopping boards you could shim for any blade height.
Lots of cheap rolling sharpeners are shit but this one seems to be the sweet spot.
