  • Disc brakes on a road bike - is 160mm enough?

When I last bought a road bike discs were not a thing.
I've always had discs on MTBs and always run dinner plates (I had 200mm on QR at some point and didn't die)

Eyeing up a new bike and 160 seems to be standard across the board.
Is it possible to add a spacer and run 180s? (at least up front)
    Or is it unnecessary?

  • If you are breaking at the same rates 160 and a 180mm disc will be doing the same work? So the only difference is the different leverage caused by the extra 10mm radius?

  • 180 on a road fork will make it flex and judder

If you have brake chatter or problematic amounts of fork flex before the back wheel comes off the ground, your problem isn't the rotor diameter.
