TRP CX8.4 mini-V brake

  • Only need one wheel’s worth but happy to consider a bike’s worth. Colour not important.

  • Hi @LWaB and happy new year!

I have a 'pair' of TRP CX9 you can have for £30. Bought with a snapped tension arm, and brake boss stuck in one of the pairs. I also appear to have been relieved of the brake blocks and holders by a unscrupulous bike shop.

Pics of everything you would get. Let me know either way. SE London based but happy to meet up within reason.

  • Interested in these if @LWaB doesn’t bite.

  • Thanks @jppegs I am happy to stand aside for @vilms5000 since they want a pair of brakes.

  • Thanks eveyone.

Just to reiterate this is only one working pair. The 2nd set which is also included in the £30 has one snapped tension arm and has the brake boss stuck in. Also you will need to buy / add the brake blocks which appear to have been nicked.

@LWab let us know if you're still happy to let them go and if so @vilms5000 if you're still keen dm about meet up /posting.

    Have a good evening all.

  • I've got a pair but the adjuster screw is threaded on both. I used them bodged for years in the hope an easy fix might present itself. Nothing did.
Can have them for free, just postage.

  • I'd be interested in these if OP doesn't.

  • You know a way of fixing? Im done with them, just curious.
Went with mini Motos and no looking back

  • If you can be arsed, could you post a pic of issue?

  • The little adjustment screws are steel and the housing is alu, so they thread v easily. Common problem with these brakes apparently.

  • You can see them in the pics posted above by jpegs

  • I would prefer the slightly shorter arms on the CX8.4 compared to the CX9, so happy to let them go to somebody specifically looking for the 9.

@sorethroat I am finishing off a minor update on a tandem, so I am trying to avoid bodging. Stokers tend to get twitchy about any hint of bodging the brakes.

  • You can/could get a rebuild kit. I had the housing around the adjuster crack, was easy enough to swap it out once you figure out how to get the pivot bushing thing apart.

  • Nah. They had one specifically for the CX line: https://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/components-c9/brakes-rim-c56/rim-brake-spares-c617/trp-cx8-4-cx9-rebuild-kit-p17969

The spring arms in your link are the wrong shape and probably too short. Might be worth emailing TRP to see if the adjuster housing is compatible or if they have any kits lying around 🤷

  • Every day is a school day!

I would guess that they are out of stock at all the retailers because the wholesaler is out of stock.

  • Could you not take both sets of brakes and take the parts which work to make a working set?

  • I took ‘a pair’ to mean one wheel’s worth and the adjusters on both arms as being nonfunctional.

  • @Cornish_Bike I am up for that. DM incoming.

  • I've looked for this before but couldn't find one that wasn't sold out or discontinued.
