  • Bit misleading/sensational/scaremongering title and article.

There's more that had happened in the past year of which was not disclosed.

  • I guess bringing a whole new model to market isn’t going to be cheap.

  • Anyone got a set of black guards knocking about?

  • Going from £10.7M to £4600 in profit one year to the next is pretty sensational.

  • Going from £10.7M to £4600 in profit one year to the next is pretty sensational.

So sensational that it sounds like an accounting thing rather than reality. People are still buying (fewer) Bromptons.

  • All I can say is that the accounts are available from Companies House.

  • I think Jameo was thinking more about the internal accounting books than the publically declared company accounts.

  • Did not think my one gym session during Xmas could have done this…

  • The numbers (lifted from the article) are from the published accounts.

Not really. Their profit from bike sales was down a few percent and their operating costs were up a few percent. That’s all it takes.

I can’t see anything particular juicy in their Companies House report.

  • Look harder... ;)

  • How are the early G-Line crew getting on? Initial impressions.

  • They are indeed sitting on a massive cash pile but that doesn't explain the so called 'slump' in profit.

What I was drawing attention to was lower sales and higher operating costs (of which does not have a note to disclose why) reconciles better, have the accounts printed out but not had a chance to look into it in detail yet.

  • 80% of their sales come from exports. So currency movements can have a huge impact.

It isn't about London or the UK, it is about how the bike is positioned/perceived abroad.

Page 9 of the financial statements says:

The group are naturally hedged....and following the year end has implemented a more active hedging strategy

I suspect the use of the word

    naturally

reveals more than it should; they might have sat on their hedging approach and been hit.

  • Also who quotes 'operating' position rather than the bottom line of the P&L.
The move from £8.6m to (£1m) might be more accurate?

  • Interesting that on the original the M bar had a brace. Is this still a weak point I have a Kuosac mid-rise which i've been on for ~5 years do i need to be thinking of replacing this (a friend had an OEM one fail whilst riding and i don't fancy that)

  • Is there a reliable shoulder strap for carrying folded Bromptons?

I want to get back to the office/riding as much as possible and am considering whether a C Line Urban - 2 Speed may excite me into picking up my old pre-pandemic routine, riding in from E17 to Old St, eventually with a bit of training miles added in, now that my office has moved back there.

I need to collect kids on some of the days I’d ride - most likely a 2yo in a pushchair. This is ten minutes walk from home, so I would likely drop the bike off first, but would like to be prepared to go straight to the nursery.

All that information is probably completely boring and I am sorry, just trying to think it out loud as much as possible.

  • The original was a 1-piece bar and stem, from memory.

  • I’ve tried the restrap one for this, but it’s pretty impractical. The strap is really narrow and actually quite uncomfortable when you put as much weight on it as even a P Line.

The Bromptonic one might be better, not tried it. Definitely not the prettiest thing though.

Oh, Restrap have done their hike a bike harness thing. That might be worth a look?

I'm looking for my first Brompton.

I've got very little idea of what I should be paying for certain models so if anybody sees anything they think fit please let me know!

  • Similar situation, I've been trying to find a concise definition of the different models, but there seems to be a conspiracy of confusion/obfuscation.... what is a 'C' line vs 'A' mudguards ? I've got that the 'P' has Ti forks and rear triangle, and the 'T' has a Ti frame too... is that it ? TIA for any help.
