The Australia social media ban for under 16s is unlikely to even happen in the end, It was a rushed mess that not going to hold up in court.

Australia is full of rushed messes that got carried forward and/or got even worse.

Exactly why I went with a .com as opposed to a .com.au for my business. They're taking the piss over here but most Aussies are blissfully ignorant of the situation.

It's one of the reasons why I don't even entertain the idea of putting my hand up to run the forum. The legal situation here is f*cked.

Owner is Finbar the cat, with his cute Australian address.
Servers are in Iceland or some shit, outside the EU, outside the UK.
It's fucking stupid to even need to contemplate this for a bicycle website, but here we are.

@Velocio
How come this thread isn’t in the end is nigh sectionAlso is anyone else feeling regular pangs of sadness that this place will be no more? It’s been such a source of joy, support, knowledge etc. It’s amazing to have witnessed people’s change and progression in life, the careers some have forged as a result of lfgss, the families that have grown up, the deep friendships, the people offering help and support to utter strangers from the interwebz. My morning routine is based around waking, feeding the dogs, making coffee, saying good morning and then either checking the news or Lfgss’s filtering of the news. I know the social media I default to for scrolling is this website. I’ll miss this, I hope that many transfer over to discord, am sure the change will have some downsides, but hopefully we can find a way to make it work.

People didn't notice it when they came to the site... so I made the thread top level

Nah. I've been meaning to get to know my family for ages and this seems like a great opportunity to do so.

Life goes on, and people move on. The Net has gone through a lot of stages of development, and communities often form and flourish in one stage and wither in the next. kuro5hin used to be a great community, and I still miss it, but the Internet didn't die when it did.
You're already part of at least one community that started here but became its own thing. There will be others to find.

But it became a bit more shitty, right?

Eternal September was the start of the rot. Or at least some would say, I'm not that much of a grey beard. Yet.
As if Australia is any better. Laws here can compell you to backdoor anything and tell nobody because of national security. Also the upcoming social media ban for under 16s will have wide reaching impact.
