This era of rockhopper had an integrated canti cable guide at the seattube. I looked at using a stepped ferrule in the end of it, but it wasn’t going to work and the exit angle is all wrong for getting the cable in the right place for the v-brakes.I do however enjoy the vastly superior braking with less set up faff…so might just stick with the ugly zip ties for now.

Ah OK. I have a similar integrated cable run on a GT but a band on cable stop allowed me to run v-brakes instead of cantis.

I also have to add these for improved braking performance. I have these on another bike and man they are so much better than normal noodles.

What's the brake conundrum? Are you missing cable stops? There are band-on cable stop options that work well to run brake cables along the top tube.
