Signing on following a year of very consistent exercise but some borderline disordered (over) eating. Looking to keep running, and eat normally. Will weigh in tomorrow but im guessing im 96kg

Signing in. 2023 this thread helped me massively, 2024 I was less disciplined although managed to still be well under what I started with in Jan 23. Will do a weigh in and set some targets in the next few days

reporting for duty
finished the year 8-10kg down on where I started it. happy with that. don’t want to lose much, if anything, next year. just want to stay disciplined and maybe out on some muscle…

Hi. Was good at this at the start of this (last) year? Then yo-yoed a lot and got all the way back to what appears to be my equilibrium weight. ~93kg. A lot of running over summer and sorting out portion sizes for me back to 86kg and the post Christmas scales have me at 88.
83 consistently is my goal with a stretch of sub 80. With the caveat that I'm a lot happier that in the second half of this year I was eating sensibly and enjoying food, and still fit enough to run a fast (enough!) 10km without any pain, so trying not to stress too much about the arbitrary scale numbers.
Managed to survive a trip to the USA this year without the commensurate 5kg it usually brings, which points to slightly better mindset around eating, although Christmas still got a little too indulgent.

Managed to drop 13kgs since Feb '24, I've yo-yo'd a bit but I know what I've been doing wrong, just need to be a bit more disciplined (and organised) with the snacks!
At 93kgs now, would be happy if I could get to 80kgs by the end of 2025.

Great work!
My 2024 was very up and down. I made good progress in 2023, losing around 10kg to get down to about 61kg. I've hovered a bit above that over the last year but have got back down in the last couple of months. I know 61kg isn't heavy but I was a chubby bastard all of my younger life and I'd love to lose the remainder of my love handles and knockers before I'm too old to manage it.
Luckily I've organically fallen out of love with the dangerous couple of pints after work which has really helped with getting back to it. I'm going dry for at least January and February so just need to get back in to good eating habits to back it up. I found it really easy to lay off the easy, carby meals for dinner in 2023 but lapsed back in to it this year. I just need to pay more attention and not be complacent.
Anyway, I hope 2025 brings you all joy, regardless of what the scales show. Will report back with a weigh in tomorrow morning.

I’m in. Last year was a take of two halves on the weight loss front - first 6 months just maintaining / yo-yo-ing and not managing to lose any of the Christmas bloat (largely down to a low level drink problem and feeling mentally like shit), second half I managed to drop a good 9kg before running into Christmas. Haven’t weighed myself since Xmas eve, so not sure what the damage from the last week is, but not hugely optimistic. Do feel that I can get back to those good habits that helped me out so well in the latter part of 2024.
Aim is 69kg, expecting to be about 77 when I weigh in tomorrow. I was 91.5kg this time 3 years ago, so I’m doing way better than I once was, but there’s still that last bit of the project that needs finishing off.

May as well join in. Currently around 80kg and pretty unfit. Not massively bothered about scales but the last time I felt reasonable in appearance I was at 67kg aiming for 65 so that'll be the goal for now and it'll be reviewed once fitness is increased. Will see how long abstaining from alcohol and takeaways lasts as that's some low hanging excess calories to chop

Ugh, 83.5 this morning, up from 77.6 6 months ago when I last faced the scales, so joining in. I'm pretty unfit now, eating too much and too badly, and barely riding. Won't aim for anything specific, just keep in mind that 69 was decent and that I should be happy if I can at least halt the slide.

84.5
Massively unfit but kind of ok with my weight. Probably need to replace fat with muscle, and maybe get down to 80 kg as a goal.

Forgot to weigh myself yesterday. 62.2kg this morning so a good amount of festive damage to undo! Could be worse though.
-
• #14
As predicted - 77.1kg this morning, so that’s a 2.6kg gain since Xmas Eve. Could be worse, I guess.
Not planning to start losing weight in earnest till next Monday when the kids go back to school and I go back to work, but will hopefully be eating less constantly over the next few days, so fingers crossed I will still be in the 77s come Monday morning.

Haven't posted in 2024 version but if it's ok I might Join in here?
Weigh around 90kg, used to be more like 80kg, probably could/should be more like 70kg.
Issues affecting my ability to sensibly reduce/regulate my weight in no particular order:
- Getting old and niggling injuries
- Two young kids and a wife that works weekends
- Alcoholism
- ADHD (issues with impulse control)
- Depression/self-loathing (ditto self care)
Anyone dealing with some/all of that combo? Any tips?
- Getting old and niggling injuries

Weighed in this morning at 89 kg. When I started in 2022 I was 95kg and got down to 82kg in about October 2022 then have slowly drifted upwards since then. Target is to get back to 82kg by the summer

Hi, you may find more specific answers to some of your issues in the Depression, Teetotalism and Parenting threads in Members Only. And you can share the woes of getting old in the middle-aged thread
I would say that successfully losing weight in 2022 massively improved my mental health. I think mainly because it proved to me that I was in some sort of control of at least part of my life.

Thanks. I've lurked and occasionally posted in all of those, but something about my personality, or at least my communication style, always seems to put me firmly on the outside of things.
While I'm at peace with it being too late in life to suddenly become a likeable or successful person, I do think I could realistically address my weight this year, and was sort of wondering specifically about the interaction of those factors and weight. If there was a 'maintaining a healthy weight despite being a fuck-up in every other aspect of life' thread, I'd be there, trust me :)

maintaining a healthy weight despite being a fuck-up in every other aspect of life
people that focus on fitness while neglecting other areas of personal development? couldn't imagine you'd find anyone on (notionally) a cycling forum that could empathise

I think trying to fix one thing at a time is OK.... i would say that alcohol has a LOT of calories though, as my post-Christmas recycling bin testifies

I had written a fairly lengthy response but managed to close the tab and lose it all…
Having a wife and 2 kids would suggest that you are at least likeable to 3 people some of the time!
1) injuries / age - focus on diet and portion control, with a very small amount of resistance exercise. Using exercise as the main way of losing weight is challenged by injury, mood, schedules, kids, rebound hunger, more injuries. You can’t out exercise a bad diet most of the time.
2) kids/wife - don’t eat the kids leftovers. It is a bit wasteful, but it is extra calories that won’t fit into a plan. At some points, I think I was probably eating 1000-1500 calories extra in pizza, bread crusts, half eaten apples and leftover pasta.
Also keep the kids snack drawer full of stuff that you won’t crave yourself.3) Keep a simple regular routine, plan go to simple healthy meals and avoid drinking liquid calories. Consistency and habits are super powerful, and can help keep you on track even if your brain doesn’t feel like it.

Thanks, @Acliff and others.

You mean there are people whose wife and kids like them? This is a bizarre new idea to me, I'll have to look into it.
(Did I mention one of the main reasons people dislike me is my relentless facetiousness, and the fact that I'm convinced I'm funnier than I actually am?)
Joking aside, thanks loads for the replies. Let's see how we go.

I empathise with this.
On a separate note, get Nutracheck if you want to lose weight. Calorie counting is king.

Checking in. I got pretty lean and fit this year but travel and an excellent holiday period has put some bloat around the middle. I have a 50mile ultra marathon in May so goal is to be around 75kg for then - currently 80kg.
Plan is fairly simple. 1900cals per day for the next 30 days. 2100 for the 60 days after that. That should see be drop the weight.
The calorie gap there is greater than I require but invariably you underestimate so I find it better to do so with your calorie intake. In: Skyr bowls, kimchi soup and omelette (with added egg white)
Out: Chocolate, cheese and wine
Continuation of the thread from last year.
Its been great to have a space for shared experience, accountability, tips, support and somewhere to show some pride in reaching weight goals, whatever that may be.
Hope that this year its as helpful as it has been in previous years!
