This era of rockhopper had an integrated canti cable guide at the seattube. I looked at using a stepped ferrule in the end of it, but it wasn’t going to work and the exit angle is all wrong for getting the cable in the right place for the v-brakes.I do however enjoy the vastly superior braking with less set up faff…so might just stick with the ugly zip ties for now.
Attempt three of a vintage mtb. Had a Kona that rode nicely but lacked clearance and was too long. Tried a GT for the triple triangle but the u-brake prevented mudguards and it was heavy and rode kind of shit (I overplayed…it did not have joy attached).
So then this came up as a frame only. Bingo. Time to match my partners (nicer) rockhopper. I still need to shorten the cables and solve the rear brake conundrum - run a canti and mismatched levers or…something.
