The three piston one does have issues.

Funny that, top of my list is also a Yeti in TSI guise. VAG group parts are also plenty and cheap enough.
@lynx yeah after some reading, that’s a lot of uncertainties, and I’d rather not get into timing issues (I have enough motorcycle bullshit to take my time)
@hugo7 great to know, as mentioned above, quietness is essential, but music is critical as well, we’re both music heads so really want something that decent off of the bat, or a system that can be upgraded with ease.
I guess it’s VAG group stuff it is. -

Currently in the middle of a long roadtrip across Brazil. My god. What a country for driving.
Driving my VW Trimax and dreaming of an Impreza STI or Pajero Evo.
As a keen VW guy, there are some super interesting/shitty models across here that have provided ample entertainment.
Currently in Teofilo Otoni heading east. Yesterday we found a car freshly upside down off the mountainside before the emergency services could attend. Today we were 1.5 hours ahead of the horror bus crash that's on the guardian. Sobering.

Very envious. I spent a bit of time in Brazil in my youth, but not as long as I wanted, and had an epic time.
Are you going to Bahia?

Took this out for the first time in about a year.
First it was the cambelt,
Then spark plugs,
Then ht leads,
Then dizzy cap and rotor,
Then new battery,
Then new water pump, whilst shearing the bolt in the block,
Then tap the bolt.
CoolantThen drive. It behaved, touch wood.

From SE London earlier this year. At least the original toy was a Jeep.

Actually like that. Not as if you can lose that in a carpark.
Rode a friend's gsxr that had been wrapped pink. Was great to ride as everyone saw it, because it was pink. Kids waived

Isn't that one a fiat jeep?

Rat-look (?) Mercury Comet parked up next to the Thames at Cookham yesterday. You could imagine there was a body in the trunk and it was about to be rolled into the river to dispose of the evidence

My Subaru has still been sputtering... Until today, it just stopped! Maybe the injector cleaner needed a bit more time to dislodge whatever gunk was there? I've done one tank with cleaner, two without, another with and now I'm halfway through another tank without.
Can it take this long to completely clean the injectors? It'll probably come back tomorrow and it'll be the MAF/O² sensor or the plugs not the injectors. 😵💫

Injectors may also fail without being clogged, so cleaning them does not always fix the issue. Especially if they are original injectors. Also. Have you had the fuel lines and fuel pump checked?
-
• #81371
They've been given a cursory check by the guy who did the pre-purchase inspection and then my regular mechanic had a quick look to make sure it wasn't a death trap but nothing more than that, if it ain't broke type stuff.
The 150,000km service is due, I'll get him to give the fuel system a thorough going over, change the fuel filter, plugs, etc. Plugs are due anyway. It's gotta be one of plugs, injectors, fuel filter, MAF or O² sensor according to my exhaustive internet research.

A "Shove it" (Chevette). I passed my test in a 1979 Opel Kadett C ( it's German cousin) which is, I think, a much nicer looking car. I occasionally drove a Chevette panda car until the gearstick came out in my hand when selecting reverse.

Vauxhall ?
Chevette L , no less
-
• #81374
Chevette with a boot. Very basic and this one looks in great nick. Better than the cheapies I bought in the 90s and welded for an MOT.

Open up the fuel filter and see is there are any shiny bits that could be metal/metallic. Get the fuel lines pressure/vacuum checked to see if any of the rubber fuel tubes are starting to breakdown.
As for the sensors, injectors and anything electrical make sure that the connections are clean and give a low resistance connection.
Go for the easy/cheap things first before changing parts
Edit am trying to help you as life is too short.
Basically I think you need to get your GF to drive one. Once you drive one you get why people like them.
