From the comparison videos the knock off ones are not robustly made, the grit (for want of a better word) wears out pretty rapidly. Also the Horl ones have the further levels of refinement, up to the Kagami stones which are ridiculously fine.

Sure, but if the knockoff ones are less than a third of the price of a Horl. You can do a lot of knives with 3!
More like a fifth of the price.
Saying that, the knock-off I got you can buy 4 replacement discs for a tenner which should extend the lifetime a bit.
