Thanks! Bought too much for my partners’ one so thought I’d use it up.

I officially have too many bikes now according to my partner but I am pleased with the outcome. Thanks to @biscuitbread for various bits to finish the build

The bartape makes me a bit sad

Almost finished my mtb, gotta switch the cranks for a decent chainline and the rear cassette/ derailleur for bigger ratio. But rides beautifully

Thanks it’s been a lot of work, I know not period correct but looking to use it for some of the local trails so made it a mix and match of parts. Frame had a couple of holes when I was given it. Used mostly parts from the shed. I’m into it for about 250-300€ and most of that was the fork and powdercoating

Great work Jay!
Did you get the braze ons added to the fork or were they THAT forward thinking at Fat Chance? -

Ahh, re-read. You got the fork made and panto'd? Or what's the deal with it?

I think that particular series was basically rebadged from another major manufacturer, actually had one from new.

What's the brake conundrum? Are you missing cable stops? There are band-on cable stop options that work well to run brake cables along the top tube.

I’ll take a picture in a bit….
This era of rockhopper had an integrated canti cable guide at the seattube. I looked at using a stepped ferrule in the end of it, but it wasn’t going to work and the exit angle is all wrong for getting the cable in the right place for the v-brakes.I do however enjoy the vastly superior braking with less set up faff…so might just stick with the ugly zip ties for now.

Ah OK. I have a similar integrated cable run on a GT but a band on cable stop allowed me to run v-brakes instead of cantis.

I also have to add these for improved braking performance. I have these on another bike and man they are so much better than normal noodles.

Pic of the band-on if that helps. You can see the old weird GT cable route piece in the small triangle.

I'm curious about the fork too
-
• #132815
It’s an Edsen fork, kinda close to the original fat chance forks and only 120€ landed. Then just put the decals on.

Aha! Thanks! Looks great indeed

Seen these before but given the budget nature of the build I’m not forking out even more for it! Thanks for pointing it out and looks real neat on the GT.

Just need to bleed the front brake and pop the basket on this and it's ready for a slow commute.

Yeah it’s a short horizontal drop out. I’ve just picked up a half link to get the tension spot on.
