Difficulty may be in getting matching fronts if they're custom or no longer sold.

This. Easy enough to attach sliders to existing shelf, build a fence to keep stuff from falling off.
You might need a bit of careful measuring to make sure the drawers don't foul on the edge of the door. Probably ok but a chance of being annoying.
As others said, get the maximera ones. They do specific ones/fronts for inside drawers/cupboards. Easy enough to DIY too, but #buyers will be #buyers
