Gloucester/Warwickshire always seems nicer than Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire.
I think a lot of it depends on your dominant commuter city. Where I am in Bedfordshire isn’t far enough away from London to be that nice, but it’s also not close enough to benefit from decent amenities and people who aren’t carrot-crunching racist/sexist morons.
