I think I had a bad one but the electrics were a complete disaster on mine. I rode it in anger 3-4 times and literally spent more time fixing indicators, rectifier, stator, headlights, clutch switch... I got fed up and sold it for £2k with no MoT (it was an R as well). It overheated once as well but I think that was related to the stator dying and the fan not operating in idle traffic.
While the electrics were terrible, the build quality on them is surprisingly good - nearly all stainless fastenings etc.
Buyer probably got a bargain as I'd fixed all the issues...
Had a triple and found out the RR was sited inside the frame at the base of the engine - hot with zero cooling and yes, it failed. Other than that it was great.
