I know that you know this, but that's the whole point. The banality of evil etc. Letting your imagination and prior knowledge of the holocaust do all of the heavy lifting. It's brilliant because it's so 'tame', yet still one of the most horrific, moving films I've ever seen.

I still need to watch it. Waiting for the right time. Need a NYE movie to watch at home together that we haven’t seen before but not sure it’s the right one for that. It was Maestro last year and wasn’t particularly enthralled by that.
Watched Prisoners again last night. Had forgotten what happens. Lots of twists and turns and subterfuge.

but not sure it’s the right one for that.
Not a film to see the bells in with I'd suggest 😝

Got you. I remember being peeved at the time by how over-rated I felt Carol was, but agree it nails a Christmas aesthetic and is beautifully, gorgeously shot. Merry Christmas viewing!

The scenes where manufacturers come fishing for contracts and the contracters come by the hpuse to sell their brand new ovens, really stuck with me. I've seen may WW2 films, but this is something that has never been brought to light. Also since many of those companies are still around, selling us stuff we are not aware of being related to these atrocities.

I implore anyone who hasn't seen it already to watch The Holdovers over Christmas. I might watch it again.

Is it on Netflix?

I don't believe so. These are your options according to Letterboxd.

We've got it lined up for Christmas Eve. Watched it in January (or was it February by the time it was out in the UK ?) and loved it!

Finished off Zone of Interest this evening, having gotten too tired yesterday. By far and away the best film I have seen this year. I won’t be hurrying to watch it again, as I am now feeling deeply sad, but you have to admire Glazer’s filmmaking prowess here. A formal triumph - to place so much weight on what can’t be seen when you’re working in a visual medium is a gutsy move - but one that also delivers a huge emotional punch. I will definitely come back and rewatch at some point in the future. Just not any time soon.

Just watched it for the second time. I knew it would be one of the Christmas regulars when I watched it last year. It's just really really good.

I didn't discover Aniara until yesterday. Now I'm trying to find other obscure sci-fi which I've missed.

About to give Caligula the ultimate cut a go.
Well maybe not all in one sitting as it’s 3hrs longEdit: think I’ll bail on this one, something tells me it could do with editing down to below 2 hours and even then I’ll not recommend it.

Where did you see it? It's been on my watchlist for years but when I added it, it was really hard to find. I haven't looked for it again since.

Kneecap the Movie. Class.
Very good film but pretty tame compared to other Holocaust stories, e.g. Son of Saul.
