• Hmm. Food for thought indeed. The one aspect I really need is reliability. Partner has a tendency to ignore noises or warning lights till it escalates.

    What did you go for in the end?

  • We ended up for a 1.2 TSI Yeti which I suppose is the closest VAG offering to the Countryman. It’s practical and handles well but it’s no Cooper S.

    Skoda Fabia could be a good alternative or a Golf with the right engine.

    They can also suffer from timing chain issues too but some less likely.

  • The three piston one does have issues.

  • Funny that, top of my list is also a Yeti in TSI guise. VAG group parts are also plenty and cheap enough.

    @lynx yeah after some reading, that’s a lot of uncertainties, and I’d rather not get into timing issues (I have enough motorcycle bullshit to take my time)

    @hugo7 great to know, as mentioned above, quietness is essential, but music is critical as well, we’re both music heads so really want something that decent off of the bat, or a system that can be upgraded with ease.
    I guess it’s VAG group stuff it is.
