  • And here is the bodge! Months after taking delivery of the fans, I've finally got round to shoving them in the back of the unit.

Pretty loud, but not as loud as my amp.

  • Does anyone have any contacts in London who could do a modification to my Mastersounds mixer?
Electronics and soldering aren't my thing. πŸ€”

  • I finally sorted some space to setup my decks only to find one of the pitch controls is completely knackered. I'm guessing years stored and probably a bit of dampness has caused some corrosion. The other deck seems completely fine.

They're Gemini PT2000s, pretty decent decks, probably as close to 1200s as you could get at the time (always regretted not finding the extra for 1200s though). Looking back on this thread it seems a service and new pitch fader may be around Β£180, probably more than the deck is worth and would parts even be available for these? Any suggestions?

If things start looking pricey I'm thinking maybe I get a digital all in one and keep my good deck for the vinyl.

If you can get down to Fordingbridge in Hampshire easily

There are a few spares and repairs available if you fancy mucking about with its internals

  • Took the plunge and bought a turntable. Nice thing about having a four channel mixer on my pioneer controller thing is that I can just hook it up and use it all together.

I have a slight problem though. When I try and back-cue (is that the right word? Finding the first beat of the phrase by running the record backwards) the needle jumps out of its groove, into the 'previous' groove. That's not normal right? I've set the tracking force according to all the instructions for the cartridge (Ortofon Concorde DJ), disabled anti-skate and made sure the turntable is on a solid, flat surface but none of that helped. Anything else I should try?

  • Is this the same on all records? How vigorous are you being?

  • This is my set up if it helps to compare to - tonearm height, counterweight position and whatever that dial is that I forget, with concordes. What decks are you using?

You could just increase the tonearm height and bring the counterweight forward a little bit, both incrementally, until you don’t experience the issue. I would start with the tonearm height. The official instructions are probably based on normal playback. I wouldn’t worry too much about precision - you’re not going to gouge any 45 12s and I presume you’re not wanting to keep them NM condition. Many DJs put pennies and the like on the headshell to stop the issue you have, but I wouldn’t recommend that!

I don’t have problems, unless the odd record is especially warped or has scratches at the cue point and I need to be more gentle with it.

PS - post your setup (and mixes). I’ve daydreamed for a long while about combining my digital and vinyl setups and am always interested in how others do it. Vinyl is a billion times more fun and rewarding so my Pioneers are very dusty! It would be nice to be able to do mixes that are across vinyl and digital tho, as there is a lot of stuff on digital that I may never be able to obtain on wax.

  • As gentle as I can be. I'm not a gorilla!

  • Reloop 7000s, another super OEM clone. I'll take a look again and check the height.

You're right. I don't really care about record lifetime.
