I have couple questions for the experienced wheel builders out there please
- Are light bicycle ERD measurements accurate in people's experience?
- how much should I add to the ERD for a regular slotted nipple (sapim poleaxe if it matters)
Thank you

yes there are specific rims that are drilled for 2:1 (or just straight drilled rims with no left/right orientation exist too), your rim with alternating hole orientations would cause some problems with the 2:1 pattern.

rule of thumb is : always check ERD yourself to avoid double spending on spokes(if you dont have a spoke cutter). for the slotted nipple: do you want your spoke sitting on the bottom of the "nipple flange" or you want the spoke all the way to the top where the threads end? some people like to have the slot not filled all the way up for a little more "wiggle room" for future wheel truing / maintenance comfort. as long as its a normal nipple seat at the rim (so that you can see and true the nipple from the outside) you can get away with not calculating extra clearance.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I'll keep an eye out for a normally drilled rear hub then.

thanks for the answer, I had assume bottom of the slot gets the most benefit - I would guess above that there is no benefit.

I've got an absolute fucking emergency here. I need to get a Rohloff to 50mm carbon rim built up tomorrow. Is there ANYONE on here who has various spoke lengths and can do it. I'm in East London, Hackney.
SBC, BLB, and Paradise all appear to be closed tomorrow. I have loads of shifts I can't afford to miss and my current wheel split open today. 🙁 -

Ah that sounds shit, it might be easier to find a bike to borrow and just chuck your pedals on until yours is sorted. Good luck!
I'd offer mine if I were closer

I 'might' have found someone. 🤞
But thank you!
Do 2:1 laced rear hubs need a rim with a specific 2:1 drilling/offset?
I have a conventionally drilled 24h rim (spoke holes offset alternately left then right) already and I'm looking at a 24h hub with 2:1 flanges (8NDS/16DS), I just want to confirm that's not going to work is it?
