  • Contrary to popular opinion I neither live nor work there. :)

We've actually met, I think, way back when. Probably at Easts.

  • I’m completely at sea with regards to values now. How does this seem?

  • You are not buying another Rolex?

  • Noticed it in Carter Marsh when discussing my parents French slate clock which they’re regulating- seemed to be less money than I thought it would be.

  • Pretty normal, there are brand new ones on C24 from private sellers for less.

  • Finally got one of these in.
I know I’m a bit of a moonwatch purist but honestly not a fan.

  • Last attempt at offering this on here, if anyone wants to get themselves a christmas treat, will consider offers

Anyone interested in an Explorer I (36mm) (ref 124270) at what I paid for it (6200GBP)?

  • i should really read threads before posting.. (depends in if your interested in 36 i guess)

  • 4mm out

  • I'm wanting this to be my Christmas watch, it's going to be very out of place but I think I'll go with it

  • I have this tiny Smiths that I got for my girlfriend, but I don’t think she’ll ever wear it. It’s hand wound with surprisingly nice crown action, ticks super loud and I think it’s quite cool.

Does anyone want it for forum donation?

  • Happy Friday, first serious watch and hopefully not the start of a hobby I can’t afford!
Next I just need to figure how the micro adjustments on day alignment works to get that just right

  • Congrats and welcome to the slippery slope

  • Feels more like a well than a slope.

  • Is magnetisation of old automatic watches really a thing? Son's watch is a bit too fast even though it is recently serviced and regulated.
I can see plenty of ways it could have been close to magnets since. Including headphone speakers and the like. I think it makes a compass needle move a little when held close too.
Are the cheap degaussers at amazon worth a shot? What are better but not too expensive euro sources?

  • Magnetisation is very much a thing, though usually it will start running a lot fast, not a little.

Depending on what the watch is and what parts were used/replaced in the service it might not be possible to get an older watch to run super accurately.

Also, regulating watches is a matter of compromise. It will be faster in some positions and slower in others. If the watch is fast or slow over a full 24h cycle, try putting it in a different position (eg face up / crown up) overnight and see if that improves things.
