This sounds very annoying. I'd just go for a motor/esc combo, like the Fusion SE. The added waterproof rating is a bonus too.
I had a reciver issue with no drive and a light flashing, turned out it was wet inside the housing. So dried it out, wrapped it in a balloon, resealed the box and a blob of grease on the incoming wires.
Now it's ready for underwater driving 😂

Thought I'd cracked it, but nope. Put everything back together and back to flashing esc and no drive.
I think going to try a new motor. Probably a fusion SE.
