  • True, but even if there was there's no drain hole in the BB shell.

  • Given it's your favourite bike why not just get the tube replaced?

  • Well I’d suspect the rest of the frame isn’t too healthy inside either, it’s 10 years old and I now realise it has no rust proofing at all.

Also, who doesn’t like an excuse for a new bike. The Wolverine has identical geometry just with bigger clearances and sliding dropouts, almost ordered, but I’ve just decided to get a Fairlight Faran due to bigger clearances, a cheaper price (Wolverine frame only is now almost £800) and what seems like extensive levels of rust proofing.

  • Oh! I have one!

Aren't the new Soma electroplated ? They are.

And as you can see, I can fit gigantic tires in mine.

But anyway the fair light is a great frame from what it seems and less cash

  • They are as of v3 or v4 as I understand. Lovely build there.

  • Thanks. It really is a wonderful build. Came together really well. Wish I had some hipster frame bag or something for it, but my normal ortlieb panniers and that bar bag do the trick.

  • What bars you running there pal?

  • Positive rise stems a few years back were awful, but recently they are not bad and it really suits the build!!

A bit of topic - but I stumbled across this conversation again, and figured you might a appreciate positive rise painted stem.

  • Soma still make one for 1 1/8th too. It's called a Crane stem. https://freshtripe.co.uk/soma-fabrications-crane-stem/

  • I'm a fan of positive rise stems!

I think I was just trying to get across that it was deemed uncool to have positive stems / being comfortable back in the day 🤣🤣

(which is false, it's actually very cool to be comfortable)

  • I figured as much. Seeing the yellow one just reminded me of your red wcs stem

  • Still yet to figure out a built that suits it!

  • What bars you running there pal?

Velo Orange siene. Got for a few lint balls because they were scratched.

Basically a cheaper less luxe version of this (which is what I wanted, but couldn't turn down the nearly free VO):

  • Are we approaching the final form? Gravel set up for some mellow riding in NZ. Just need to put the front rack back on when I get back from my Xmas travels.

Ritchey Kyote, Deore brake levers and caliper in the back, slx caliper front, XT shifter, NX cassette, GX derailleur, 90mm Thomson X4, Vittoria Mezcal 44mm tyres

  • How's the handling with a 90mm stem?
I've ridden Kyotes with 45mm and 70mm and I would be worried it would slow steering down

  • Are you permanently in NZ? Where abouts? One of my best mates now lives over there and would love an Alt cycling buddy if its the same region :)

  • No. Just for a week from tomorrow. Based in Australia.

  • Fine. Quicker than with the 110 I used to have on for drop bars.
