  • What is bolt material, and what material is the bolt being screwed in to?

  • TL;DR, you can try SRAM wide cranks if you need gravel sized chainrings. Funny BB systems but readily available everywhere. Can be used with normal chains.
Some BB386 cranks may work too

  • Yeah, cheers. Tester mentioned those. They look interesting and might be a solution if I can't get the Shimano cranks working like I want.

...Wouldn't be stainless into stainless, perhaps?

  • surly steamrollers should take more that 48t, I ride one with 49t , 8bar track cranks with HT2 bb (I believe these are rebranded andel or something something taiwan) and there's plenty of space left. hope the pic helps a little
edit:sorry its just a 46t in the picture

  • steamrollers

If he took a steamroller to his Ogre, he could squash the stays enough to fit track cranks, but that sounds even worse than using SRAM😂

  • NOOOOOO! Crankgate is not over until I decide it is!

Some 165mm XT cranks arrived today. No chainring of corks so I'm still up a creek without a crank.

  • What max size tyre for that bike? The stays on that look very different to the Ogre's so I don't think they're comparable.

  • Stay with me...

  • having just seen that shell/chainstay combo , no way that would be getting cut down to 68mm!

  • What are the chances this gets resolved before March 16th?

  • You taking bets?!?!?!

    Reported... ;)

  • no way that would be getting cut down to 68mm!

IKR, that's mental. Never seen a BB shell's width used up so much on a welded frame!

  • NOOOOOO! Crankgate is not over until I decide it is!

Has one dude ever had so much assistance in choosing a crankset before, in the history of cycling? Doubtful

  • Hi all, Campagnolo compatibility help please...

I have an 11 speed Chorus RD, the earlier version, 2010-2014 (white stickers not red ones, and with no little boxed 'A' symbol) - Ref : RD11-CH1.
The specs say it can take a cassette of minimum 11T and maximum 29T.
    Would a modern-day Centaur 11sp 11-29 cassette work smoothly with this ?
No sprocket distance dimension changes in the years between release ?
Or any other compatibility problems to consider ?

There was some funny business with 10s, IIRC... two versions, one with non-uniform spacing, was that it?

The arrival of 11s finally put a stop to worrying about anything beyond having the right number of cogs, didn't it? After all these years you can just throw in a Shimano wheel no problems.

  • That's also what I'd heard originally for the 11sp, that Shimano 11sp cassettes worked ok with Campag 11sp set-up, but from what I can filter from all the anecdotal info online, Campag cassettes don't have equal spacing across the 11 sprockets, whereas Shimano/SRM do ? Hence some say the mix works fine, the fraction of a mm difference isn't noticeable, and others that you can notice the difference and it's noticeabley not as smooth as Campag to Campag...?

  • Thanks for the confirmation.

  • Used to like the sturmey archer single speed cranks as they were cheap and looked good imo.

But not so sure on value for money now.

  • Don't know about shoes, as I've seen alloy, aluminium, or steel or stainless steel. So with the added bonus of sweaty feet, so what treadlocker or grease to use in the treaded bit, then the end bit of the bolt.

  • I currently squeezed in 650b x 47mm in but recommended are 650b x 42mm or 700x 38mm I believe

  • Re. the Campagnolo Chorus 11 speed groupset cassette compatibility options...
My other other option is to use a an existing Shimano wheelset I have, with a new 11 speed Shimano cassette.

Assuming the Shimano 11 speed cassette works ok with the Chorus 11 speed set-up, two questions :

    • Shimano cassette with Campag set-up, is it better to use a Campag chain (which I understand are slightly thinner than 11s Shimano ones?) to suit the Campag set-up, or Shimano chain to suit the Shimano cassette ?

    • The spec for the Chorus RD says max 11-29. I wouldn't want to push to a 32, but Ultegra do an 11-30 cassette (and every little helps with the hills and mountains around here). Anyone tried this, or know if the spec is conservative enough to allow a tiny bit extra like this ?

    Thanks.

  • With half the UK's mountain bike cranksets being delivered to my place in the next few days... slim.

  • It does fit 2.6" tyres.
