I presume you have advised the Police.
Is track my phone working? Easy catch for the Police of the phone can be tracked. -
• #21778
Yeah, called police, shared apple login so they could track directly but it went to near Leyton station and then got turned off. I suspect it's people robbing and handing off to gangs/ a more organised setup, not trying to flog it down the pub. I have too many banking apps and logins on there so decided to wipe it remotely, but it's pending as it's currently not connected to the internet.
Changed all my passwords, blocked banking apps etc. Total and utter ball ache.

May be worthwhile contacting your banks. Best of luck with that

• #21780
I did, and it was surprisingly easy tbh, multiple work and personal accounts with different banks. Some were even able to block apple pay and any transactions made that specific phone/app.

if you have left it locked via apple then there's nothing they can do with it other than strip it for parts tbh. you might get bombarded with messages trying to get you to remove the lock, just ignore them / block them

Good work. You were ahead of the game.
I've seen a couple of things recently about phone theft. Phone gets stolen and wrapped in tin foil to 'hide' it and at some stage the fraud starts. It's a nightmare for the owner. -

Turn on theft detection and offline device lock, eg https://support.google.com/android/answer/15146908?hl=en-GB

Is there an Apple version of this?
-
• #21785
I forgot which thread this was, sorry.
It seems iPhone doesn't have that feature yet. Seems like something Apple should fix.

Apple iOS has a function where with a long press on an application you can select additional login requirements- Face ID to open the SMS app for example.
I suppose this has been introduced with iOS 18, yes?
Haven't upgraded yet, but would like to know - with this feature enabled, do you literally have to close, say, the messages app every time single time after you used it, for this to work / so it asks for authentification next time? -
• #21787
My only issue is that now it doesn’t show the message which is quite annoying and I turned it off
-
• #21788
Yeah that's not good 😅
-
• #21789
No, you don’t need to close the app, just taking it off the screen into the background will trigger Face ID auth (and you can’t see the contents of the app in your non-active screens nor your notifications either)

No, it’s pretty good- the second you move away from the app it requires you to re-authenticate to open it again. However that is usually seamless as you are looking at the phone.

Amazing thanks!
-
• #21795
My issue with it though, is you cant see the message previews you if you want to screen messages you are right in at the deep end opening it which is annoying as I think its a great feature apart from that.
-
• #21796
True- but otherwise the OTP would show in the preview, so I can see why they couldn’t do it otherwise
-
• #21797
Nah it was just showing up as “iMessage recivedd but didn’t show who sent it even when unlocked which I though was weird

Damn - ok will do! Thanks
And thanks everyone for your responses, helpful wisdom as ever.
I totally get that, just cant really justify a grand plus on a monitor for personal project stuff.
I'm not fully bothered if it's a gaming monitor so if colour is better on the asus and BenQ id probs go there. Every monitor seems to be a games monitor these days looking.
