  • The fluoro paint chips easily during the build so you have to be very careful. I have two tiny chips which I'm not too bothered about.

I'm happy with the result, but it looks different to the photos because you basically cannot photograph this paint. It's almost radioactively bright dayglow.

Good luck with the build my dude.

  • More Rwanda mountain views...

  • Great bike and paint job!

  • Love this build, I hadnt come across the wellgo mg8 pedals, how did you get on with them? I way prefer SPD too, have used ti eggbeaters but I seemed to wear through parts at an astonishing rate, now on XTR but theyre weighty compared to road pedals.

  • I like the Wellgo MG-8 pedals. I wish I had another pair. Not a whole lot to report except that they work, they are single sided, and they provide the tension adjustment needed to achieve positive feeling in/out and some float.
Bought them used, and the spindles didn't turn freely. So before using them disassembled, mounted each axle in a power drill and rotated in ~800 grit emery paper to reduce the spindle width, then they went back into the bearigns without deforming them so much.

I am using XPEDO M-Force 8 SPD pedals on my SS bike to avoid faffing with single sided pedals in town. They are a lightweigfht double sided pedal and really great, but ££££.

Part of me still misses the chonky supportive platform provided by Look pedals. I am tempted to revisit!

  • Thanks, I hadn't realised they weren't readily available, will keep a look out!

Xpedo look decent, shame about the name and the cost...

  • After a bit of research it looks like xpedo are made by wellgo. Xpedo have a new version of the mg-8 called the rf-s1. The chromo axle version is readily available on aliexpress, just got a pair for £33 all in. Apparently 240g a pair, about 70g lighter than my xtr pedals that are about 4x the price! So thanks for the rabbit hole.

  • Awesome!! Thanks for tracking down the current version. I will know how to replace these if they die.

  • I spotted this bike's long lost cousin earlier. Sorry for the crap photo, I was trying to be discreet.
