I’ve checked my phone when stationary so maybe I’m a cunt. (I definitely am). Question tho - should google maps driving directions / Waze etc be legal? Is checking your phone when stuck to your windscreen acceptable? That’s what every uber I’ve ever been in does. They don’t get out to accept a new job.

(If not I’m fine with that, but then cars should have a lock-box that drivers have to put their phone in when they’re driving). Prob a good idea. Mikey should put his energy into that.

Around here (Manitoba) I believe you can touch your phone while driving but cannot pick it up. $672 taught me that, while sitting at a red light. I paid the fine and learned my lesson, but obviously should have known better.

There are plenty of legal but distracting things you can do with screens while driving. It's not surprising that drivers get confused. I don't think drivers should be using touch screen computers with menus. Old school knobs and dials are safer.

Totally. The proliferation of touch screen tech in vehicles where you need to keep your eyes on the road is baffling.

If you are used to touch screens and they have a good ui they are far better than hundreds of buttons, lights and dials.

Wrong in a few ways, you have to look at a screen to use it, and, how many buttons and dials do you have in your vehicle?

My car's screen lets you touch buttons e.g.vchane the radio channel, but won't let you type e.g type in place names on the sat nav

I think that all modern car stereo/navigation systems are too "hands on" and distracting. I'm currently on a trip in a friend's car that has dials and buttons to adjust maps/music etc. It takes just as much, if not more attention to adjust anything than a touch screen. If I'm driving, I'll have whoever's in the front seat use it. It must be a nightmare if you're driving on your own.

I wonder if it's possible to make a thread that only allows pictures and blocks text.
