I think that all modern car stereo/navigation systems are too "hands on" and distracting. I'm currently on a trip in a friend's car that has dials and buttons to adjust maps/music etc. It takes just as much, if not more attention to adjust anything than a touch screen. If I'm driving, I'll have whoever's in the front seat use it. It must be a nightmare if you're driving on your own.
There are plenty of legal but distracting things you can do with screens while driving. It's not surprising that drivers get confused. I don't think drivers should be using touch screen computers with menus. Old school knobs and dials are safer.
