• Really? So I guess this bit is a surprise, or, no?

am militantly opposed to the marginalisation of cycling.

  • Really?

I'm struggling to think of a more status quo, petit-bourgeois position than championing the rights of drivers to use mobile phones while they are behind the wheel. Framing it as libertarianism against a tyrannical government is the chef's kiss.

Why shouldn't to you be using a mobile phone even when stationary? Because you have a duty of care to others to be focussed and alert when operating tonnes of machinery. Maybe there is a kid bouncing a football who might suddenly veer into the road. Maybe there is a cyclist filtering. There could be a hundred scenarios where you will be able protect the safety of others better if you are actively observing while stationary. Do people get angry and distracted by online content? All the time. Will this make them a safer driver? No.

    Last derail from me.
