  • Multiple studies show that using a mobile phone in your car has as much of an effect as being drunk, and that the effect of distraction lasts for several seconds even once the phone is put down. Ergo your control of the motor vehicle is impaired significantly, this not hypothetical.

There is a that a reason ours laws are written with such specific wording. Rail against our current legal system if you wish, it certainly has it's problems, but CM is working within system he has available to push people to stop doing something which risks injury to others.

  • Really?

I'm struggling to think of a more status quo, petit-bourgeois position than championing the rights of drivers to use mobile phones while they are behind the wheel. Framing it as libertarianism against a tyrannical government is the chef's kiss.

Why shouldn't to you be using a mobile phone even when stationary? Because you have a duty of care to others to be focussed and alert when operating tonnes of machinery. Maybe there is a kid bouncing a football who might suddenly veer into the road. Maybe there is a cyclist filtering. There could be a hundred scenarios where you will be able protect the safety of others better if you are actively observing while stationary. Do people get angry and distracted by online content? All the time. Will this make them a safer driver? No.

    Last derail from me.

  • There's nothing to explain. Bunny ate the flowers.

  • The bunny was using a mobile phone while driving

  • You're wrong on this. As soon as you get behind the wheel you need to be aware of what's around you the whole time until you're properly not driving. Temporarily stationary is still pretty fucking close to being able to squish some poor cunt because you suddenly look up and realise you shouldn't be stationary and haven't been paying attention to what's around you for the last 30 seconds. Even if that's a bit too hypothetical for you, all the cunts checking their phones when temporarily stationary are the same cunts who are thinking about and checking their phones when moving slowly, or on an open, straight road or killing pedestrians and cyclists, just easier to clock and shop when they're still.
