  • I only recently learned that KFC at Christmas is a thing in Japan. Some KFC marketing person realised that the only thing Japan really knew about Christmas was that it was a big deal in America, and a food they thought of as American was fried chicken, so now everyone thinks you have KFC at Christmas time.

  • Japan has quite an ... interesting relationship with KFC in general.

    There's an amazing urban legend in Japan that suggests the ghost of Colonel Sanders placed a curse on the Hanshin Tigers baseball team after fans threw a Colonel Sanders statue into a river in the 80s.

  • I can vouch for this, I queued with a colleague inside a roped off line outside a KFC on Christmas Day in Tokyo, alongside a life-size statue of the colonel in santa garb. Surreal.
