Awesome! Would it be hard to find original bumpers to replace these ones?

I actually don't mind them much - You can get them and Im thinking of getting some black but for now its fine as it is. - I like the boxy look specially with a short nose

Anyone have any camper van hire company recommendations for a week in April - or would be willing to hire theirs? For four people going to northern France.

Picked this up a while ago, maybe new house.
Just trying to solve a wiring issue and then in for a mot.

That will have some good space inside. Keep us updated with pics as you go.

Full strip out, few little issues but nothing major.
Fibreglass flares on, second window. Unistrut roof rack, just finishing the floor prep then need to focus on mot before the rest of the build.
This is the plan for the rear panel, with two drawers under the bed.

So; replaced all the bulbs in the side markers and done a little bit of rust work, the 2/3 roof seems leaking so stripped those right back and got those all sealed up internally and externally. Battery tray under the bonnet was completely rusted through, so I’ve had a custom one laser cut and that’s all in place now.
stripped out the double passenger and swapped both front seats for a pair out of an old sprinter.
£20 spent on a double seat from a transit mini bus MK7, they come with the seatbelts integrated and just bolt into the floor if you like
Did buy a third but then found an ambulance double folding seat which means the step through into the back is much bigger, the sliding doors on this van are quite small which is great but it means you wanna touch more space in this area
Secondhand roof vent going in 500×500 will update to 700 X 500 in time
Gasless operation, induction hob, 2X 185 solar panels on the roof along with a two meter X 1500 roof deck at the back
Raised double bed queen size, then the kids will be on a double cabbunk and a single bed that drops down from just behind the driver seat
Under the bed will be a utilities covered and then half storage half utilities with the water boiler in on the other side, a bike tray and a storage tray which will emulate a double-decker bus!
Kitchen area will be driver side sink and hidden shower; the worktop will fold up against the vertical wall to create this.
On the near side, there will be one built-in induction hob and then I might get a second portable one for larger meals.
To finish off, a fiamma f45s awning on the side, a swing on the sliding door for the kiddos
Going to line it in a silvertex material which is set to cost me a fuck ton, but it’s so nice I don’t mind

of course designed and produced a centre console box to fit between the front seats, sit low enough so that we can both still swivel round. Then gonna make about 150 mil deep storage section that will go the full width and screw into this console box which will probably end up storing the table leg.
Mocking up some overhead lockers that were fit for another build but the colour choice changed so now spare, weirdly they’re a perfect fit and I won’t charge myself anything for these!
Will do a matching set on the opposite side but 70 mil less tall.

Do you have much rust underneath the van? I have to treat my Vito every year, it is the only thing that is extending its life. If I ignored it the thing would been scrap by now. It is such a a shame because the rest of it is sound.
Great work so far!

Definitely some! Due to give it a full tidy and under seal

Be plenty! DCDC charger added if needed plus hook up and work 3/4 days a week

Okay fair enough. I have 1 330W panel and sometimes wished I had more. Especially on cloudy days or on hot summer days where you want to park your van in the shade. Since you have such a big roof I would advice to put as many panels as possible.

Calculations work out and I’m gonna keep the rear section of the roof is free real estate for a roof tent, also have plenty of space extra batteries that I can borrow through winter

what made you choose this van? did you go searching for this model/type specifically? interested as I think a lot of the older vehicles eg merc 308d etc have many desirable features compared to new ones but personally get put off worrying about the negatives of older vehicles.
Looks great btw and sounds very well thought out

Indeed I was keen for this van due to the shape, size, length, smaller sliding door etc.
New vans are too tech, too many issues with stupid little things.
Budget also! This was only £2k compared to the £45k van sat next to him that’s half the size, gas half the personality etc.
Nice project!
Pleased to say we managed to get our Trafic driving again.
