  • There's a code on the other side of the caliper, that'll give you the definite answer to what pads you'll need.

Deore comes in non series, 4XX to the current 6XXX so just by the name both B and G applies!

  • Also, I think I've got 11s chain here and I think it might be 10s. Hmm, might need more bits than I thought. I might make this bike shops problem - they'll be starved for work during winter, right?

  • Yeah, I need to have a closer look.
Maybe I'll clean it (ROFL) and find some serial numbers.

I'd like to get the GRX cranks installed but I don't want to get half way and find I can't make something work and then not be able to reinstall them, ie. because I don't have a long enough 10s chain...

  • 11s works with 10 but not the other way. Photo of the codes on the plates?

  • Where the heck are you based nowadays? Could pop over if you're central-ish.

  • Ok it's actually an 11s cassette. Maybe typo in the advert.

    BR-M615 are the calipers

  • Nah out west. It's fine, I'll sort it, just didn't think about Middleburn requiring weird stuff until today.

I might be thinking of other cranks. Who did those triangular ones?

    Royce

  • M615 takes the G series pads, G05 are at the moment the bomb, bites like never before but still cheap as chips!

  • Sweet, I'll order some (or see if LBS has any to grab before the weekend)

    That solves one problem, thanks!

  • Yeah, sometimes it's fine, sometimes firey death. Wouldn't risk it myself, or recommend to a rider.

  • Looks alright to me. Could maybe do with a slight adjustment to move the caliper 'out' a bit but I don't know about weird narrow pads or anything. Eyeballing it, it appears to be at full forward adjustment, so I may need to file the inside of the caliper mount to get it further forward.

  • just to follow up on my "I bought a fork with a too short steerer tube because I'm an idiot" story, this amazing product is definitely not the solution, is it?

  • I think you currently have the B series pads instead of the G ones.

  • It’s a solution. Is it the correct solution…?

  • How can you tell? I'll pull them out later and have a closer look. This is getting confusing.

  • This little bit here seems to be straight all the way down which indicates B, the G ones has a curve/waist.

  • Yeah, IIRC they're straight edge. But is that right or wrong for these calipers?

  • Yeah, not the worst offender. I'd probably just leave it

  • I fixed the rattle in my fancy Garmin mount. That's about as far as I've got. Bike needs a clean, aerobars need adjusting, I need to stick stiffer elastomers in Redshift stem, need to buy spare brake pads, need to swap Middleburns for GRX and see if the chain works ok with the cassette... none of this is going to happen before weekend's ride though is it?

I wonder if these calipers can take allen bolts instead of split pins - is that a new thing or have they always done it?

  • The moment you've all been waiting for...

  • This reckons the "curvey" G04S are compatible with my calipers so does it actually matter?

    https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/disc-brake-pads-g04s/_/R-p-X8357641

  • B series, is it not a b series in a g series body? (You’d notice if there’s a gap on both end of the caliper allowing it to move back and forth a lots)

  • If it take split pin, it probably just take this only.

  • So, you reckon I could get a G04S pad and it'll be fine? They look close enough so I presume they'll fit and if rotors are the same size. Stupid product codes.

  • this amazing product is definitely not the solution, is it?

Would you use a quill stem at its minimum insertion depth in your carbon fork?

I suppose if they're still in business it either means they haven't killed many people yet or kiwiland is just too far away for anybody to bother with litigation, but I wouldn't use that.
