I think the key is the mum wasn’t cool with it. And what better way, to make sure your daughter doesn’t end up with someone you don’t like, than getting that someone locked up in a Dubai nick.

Sorry, the guy's parents, but they were with some parents despite being old enough to go by themselves anyway and have presumably been shagging since they were both 17.

But why got to the Dubai authorities? She would only do this if she was aware of the laws there right and only to get the lad banged up. She was back in the UK when she reported it reported it right?

With the girls parents, who would've known and been cool with the relationship, and presumably meant the lad would've been even less likely to be checking local age of consent laws. It is a bit mad and certainly different to him heading over by himself at 18 and bonking a 17 year old local.
