UK 18yr old man has relationship with UK 17yr old girl while in Dubai (where age of consent is 18).

Girl's mum finds out when they get back to the UK, takes umbrage, reports it to Dubai police and the man is detained (still).

Is it me, or does it feel unnecessarily spiteful to go to Dubai police with this a. knowing that no laws were broken according to UK legislation; and b. reporting someone for a sex offence in Dubai will only end in a handful of bad ways.

Maybe I'm too liberal... !?

Absurd.

Dubai is really on my list of places to never visit.

Same. When I practice gratitude, it's part of my mantra that I am not in Dubai. Hellish laws, poor Human Rights record, wall to wall with influencer types.

Anyway, I digress... I can't help thinking there was probably a little bit (a lot?) of "I'll show him!" by the obviously disgruntled mum.
