Losing is learning unless you are crippled with an untrained mind or secretly enjoy self sabotage

Tesla stock up to a record high - but magnificent 7 all closing out the year fairly strongly, should hopefully mean that folks with some of the more aggressive etfs will be seeing some strong isa performance to round out the year!

Vanguard now charging a £4 a month fee on accounts below £32k
Just fuck off
-
• #4886
Guys. I'm dumb. I have a S&S ISA with Vanguard. Every month I invest a bit of money into one of their "Ready-made portfolios" (LifeStrategy 60%). I chose this fund, but this fund is obviously managed by Vanguard. Do I have a (very unimaginatively managed) self-managed S&S ISA or a managed S&S ISA?

Lol - we both got the same email it seems!

Bastards

That would be a self-managed ISA.

Breakeven point on the £4/mo vs. 0.15% is £32k so the closer you are to that the less impactful the change is.
-
• #4891
But as I read it, it replaces the 0.15% fee for accounts under £32k, so yes it's a bit more, but not very much more.
Edit: and as frankenbike says above nearer your balance to £32k the less difference it will make.

32k - lol! I've got about 2k in mine and add £100 a month. Was supposed to be just another retirement pile to grow slowly over the next couple decades, so having to fuck around with it is a bit annoying.

I don’t think there are any fees on invest engine but I might be wrong. Referral code below in case it’s useful

New app must’ve been expensive!

Or, get it popular enough that loads of people join and then start to ratchet up the fees (a la Uber). Some people will leave but many will stay due to apathy or the effort to move elsewhere.
-
• #4897
Speaking of elsewhere... Where is elsewhere? I want something I can put money into and forget? Maybe S&S isn't for me.

I think they have become something of a "default" investment platform and probably they've got a load of 20 year olds signing up based on advice from Instagram/Youtube who go on to invest £150 and leave it sat there for 8 years. Nothing wrong with that, but a percentage-based fee and no barrier to entry means costs are probably mounting and it's becoming more trouble than it's worth to deal with.

Few of us are using Trading 212 for S&S ISA, could get and S&P500 ETF no charges on sale or purchase.
Can’t help but think his preference argument is flawed…
